Default What are the odds?????

Attended a hunting function Last night, there were probably 300 People there so I fiqure there was a few Ifishers, Prizes were good and they sold a lot of tickets, First the Man running the show picked the first ticket for the first Gun, and guess what won. Amazing. Then another guy, don't know if he was connected started winning, he won 4 Guns and a major print. I'm coming away with a real sour taste in my mouth. I keep number count on everything and there was a lot of double winners, we had 8 people at our table, four were sponsers and out of the 8 with multiple tickets, we won a plate, seems hard to believe. Has this happened to anyone else at any of these outings. I just can't beleive the odds of everything..Ray

Don't know how the tickets are mixed in the "barrel", but I have seen this once before at a ski sale at a convention center.

My spouse and i were among the last to enter and put tickets in the barrel...and we each won something..the first two tickets drawn were ours.

Sometimes the folks running these things don't mix up the tickets all that carefully. Looks bad, but not necessarily dishonest.

I have been "the man running the show" at a number of these type events. Sometimes it amazed me that the same person kept winning and winning. (We always stir the bcukets and spin the barrel a bunch and use kids from the audience to draw the tickets for large prizes, holding the buckets so they can't see.) Here is what I learned:

The people who win a lot usually spend a lot on tickets. I had one event where one guy won three guns. Found out later that he spent over $1500 on raffle tickets. The more tickets you have in the barrel the better the odds that you will be a big winner.

Put a little bend in your tickets. Flat tickets lay flat and tend to stack. Bend 'em up so that the kid has something to grab ahold of!

If you get the chance, put your tickets in over a period of time so that they are not all together in the bucket/barrel.

Good luck and thanks for supporting these events!

I have been going to those functions for years and have never come home with a gun, only a couple small prizes and two decent prints. I have I'd say an average amount of tickets in teh barrel, but I agree that for the most part, the guys that often win & win big, are the ones who put a lot of money into it.

There was an incident however at a banquet where a guy I knew put one single ticket into a drawing and won the grand prize varmit rifle, a target model 22-250. I hate it when that happens! (but it gives me hope  )
