Heading to LA
Just by the title I bet I made you look...
Some people probably said halleluiah....
However, as Lee Corso would say on College Gameday..."Not so fast my Friend"
I will be traveling to Venice, Louisiana (LA) to go fishing for some of these the first weekend in April...
This trip is complements of my little buddy in Dallas, Tx..."Russ Man" who I met in 1982 when I accepted my first job in the High Tech industry...Russ is a great friend who visits me every summer for a week and we go to Alaska together as well...He is originally from Indiana but I don't hold that against him so why should anyone else despite that major handicap...
Oh well...check this out...this is what we'll be fishing for...I better head to the gym now so I don't blow a gasket if I get one of these on...I'm sorry , all this weather has me daydreaming again about warm tropical climates...

Re: Heading to LA
KHH - "Les go get some mo!"
While you're down there, watch the bass fishing cable channel - this old coot is always on - looks like he steppe right out of the shanty and and into his pirogue....he cracks me up...you'll here that phrase a hundred times during his show.
Sounds like a fun trip.

Re: Heading to LA
I am envious. Hope you take the time to get to fish for some Redfish and Speckeled Trout. I was fortunate to fish for them down in Corpus Christi Texas.I'll tell you what. On Steelhead type gear and a popping cork with live shrimp it was some of the best fishing ever. We were wade fishing. Those Redfish are tremendous fighters, not to mention they are ever so delicious in the frying pan. I am trying to get my son to go down there with me someday. When I retire I intend to spend alot of time down there. I would like to be there now if you know what I mean.

Re: Heading to LA
SK50,
I lived in Palm Bay, Florida from 1988 to 1991 and bar none if I had a choice of where I would live...this place would be right up there...
Snook, Redfish, Specs, Flounder, all the off shore salt species, bass, ....on & on...you get the idea...
This time of year, we would go up to Mosquito Lagune just North of Cape Canaveral and put the lamps off the side of the boat at night time and dip shrimp...Man, talk about fun...Fill up a 5 gallon bucket or maybe 2 on a good night...I also was very fortunate on one of those nights to witness a shuttle launch from there one night...we were as close to the launch as the coast guard would allow...what a rush to feel the earth shake....
This time of year, I always think about that place...A person needs a place of refuge like that in the winter time...I truly miss it this time of year...

Re: Heading to LA
KHH, I don't know about you but for a scrawny guy like me, a bunch of upper body exercises are in order. I found this out after a trip to Baja. Good Luck and I'm sure you'll keep us posted, won't you?

Re: Heading to LA
KHH: I hear you. Down there at Corpus there was 5000 Square miles of Laguna Madre to fish. Right next to King Ranch. When we were not wading we fished a little old 16' Flat bottom. Pitched bobbers and live bait, also some spoons. It was all you needed. I'lll never forget one time in December these three guys pulled up with an airboat in camoflauge shorts. They were going duck hunting. That blew me away. But the cost of living is very cheap down there and the people were great. Lots of ex military like me. My dad was from Texas and grandma was from Oklahoma. I will always long for for the Southland although I was born here. I wish I could spend more time down there as I truly enjoy it. You know, some shrimp, deep fried redfish and specs and lets not forget the blacked eyed peas. My momma did not raise no fool. Maybe a couple of cold barley pops too. Yee Haa!!!!!!!! God bless Texas and Florida too. I would like to learn more about it. The diversity of this country and it's people is what makes it so great. It is the land of opportunity. Snowed in in at Hagg Lake.

Re: Heading to LA
SK50,
Funny you mention Texas...
My wife's parents live in Lubbock  and thats where I met her...
I lived in Dallas for 5 years & Austin for a year and a half... Both my kids are Native Texans...
My company headquarters is in Austin...I travel there once a quarter or twice a year...
Everytime I go down there and stay a weekend, I end up in Port Aransas at Mustang Island...I love the Gulf...My brother in law lives in Corpus...I could handle it down there no problem...especially this time of year...Port 'A" fishing is decent and as long as I keep going to Austin...I will end up down there...

KHH, A buddy of mine was just moved to Austin by his company. I can't remember the name off hand. What company do you work for.

Re: Heading to LA
...what a disappointment! I thought you were going to Disneyland!
Just more fishing...
Doesn't anyone ever get tired of just fishing?
Let's go see Mickey!
