I've been very fortunate to be on a bit of a roll fishing for macks at Crescent the last month and a half. Friday was no different. At least the temperature was more civil than last weeks -6. It stayed above freezing all day. The lake was totally flat when we got there with low clouds and fog forming. Joining me today was Tom (rum runner) He got the first fish before we had the rods in the water ten minutes. A decent 8 lber. I thought we were in for a good morning bite. We didn't get another bite till almost noon. While we were trolling I took a shot of the lake, it was almost eerie. Dead calm and totally quiet.
Finally the bite started and Tom got a big takedown. He brought up about the prettiest mack I have ever seen. An 18lb male in bright spawing colors.
We released him and then I got the next 3 fish including this 15lber.
I tried to smile but it aint easy without dropping the pipe. We caught a total of 5 in less than 2 hours and also had one bite me off and another break off right at the boat as he was rolling and wrapping the line around him. Somewhere down there are 2 mackinaw wearing my lures. I bet they have them rubbed off by now. Another enjoyable day on Crescent lake. I intend to keep going every week till it ices up.
