Default Egg Cure on Herring??

Has anyone tried this? I'm curious about how they would turn out & if anyone who has tried it has caught salmon with it.

Most retail egg cures have sulfites and other chemical attractants, so would they "milk" out of the herring too?

If you havn't noticed, PINK is IN this year! I wonder if the Springer's pay attention to the latest fashions like my wife does?

I dont know about the whole curing the herring deal. I run it natural right out of the package, just like they are in the ocean when the salmon are feeding on them. They smell like hering... look like hering.... and catch fish just fine. Why alter the appearence to something unnatural? I see no need in it at all. Thats just my 2 cents worth!! But i guess if you are bored and want to dress up your bait..... More power to ya I'll stick to all naturelle

The purpose of curing herring is to bring out the shine and toughen them up. The more time you've got hooks in the water, and not rigging up bait, the better your odds are of getting into a fish. Plus, most of the Willy fishing is in water that has 3' visibility, max. The more flash you get from your bait, the better.

On the other hand, you never know what the fish are going to like. I would only drag it out if the fishing is slow. Why waste good fishing time trying out stuff that has no history of catching fish?

A couple seasons back, I tried this a bit on Tillamook chinook after a guide tipped me to it. Can't say it improved our success any. Never tried it for springers though.

While it's not egg-cure, you will see springer fisherman who dye their herring, usually blue.

I just salt them, it makes them nice and shiny and ferm. I have used food coloring in a salt brine blue red pink green and I tride to mach the color of the bait fish that came out of the fish. I dont think it made much diference but its fun to try new things.
