Re: My Hoochies Pic's for Sakana
Thanks for the pictures! I have never really thought of adding a spinner blade to my hoochies....seems like a darn good idea! Have you ever taken a tally of which catches more fish? Spinner blade vs. spin'n'glow vs. a regular hoochie?

RKSpinners has lots of good stuff. I really like his glo hooks. I'm not sure I can say more with the rules re sponsors.

Re: My Hoochie Pic's for Sakana
I've had problems with the R&K hoochies in years past. The beads were not compatible with the skirt material and end up melting together into a gooey mess. This happened to all of my R&K hootchies...even unopened ones. Is this still an issue with them?

I don‘t think ifish has a problem with sharing info on where you get your fishing gear or what you like about the gear you got even if they are not an ifish sponsor.

When I first started tying hoochies I was told to not leave beads inside the hoochie skirt because it would melt. Fall River Guy told me last year about the glow glue on the hooks from R&K so I ordered some. They came just like the picture shows with foam inside and not beads. The foam has been in for several months and shows no signs of melting. The bobber stops I use also don’t have the problem of melting and some have been in for two years.

I have not kept track of my catch rate on paper, but I can tell you I have caught more with a spinner blade then just a plain hoochie. I think the reason for this is because I fish spinner blades more often and not necessarily because the fish hit a plain hoochie at a slower rate.
The spin n glos are a little funny because I have a lot more of them and almost endless color options but I don’t fish them that much. When you put a spin n glo on a hoochie it makes it a large lure. I usually fish it fairly deep or in murky water. Sometimes I will use it late evening when I’m trying to catch one last fish after the sun has already gone down. I also use spin n glo's with out the hoochie skirt. Just place a few beads on the line and then add the spin n glow. This keeps the size down and you can fish it any time.
I don’t have a lot of spin n glo's tied up sitting in the box ready to go. I have extra hook tied up and extra hoochies and several spin n glo's in my tackle box so I can assemble them if I need to.

Good advice ET. The hoochies in question were purchased quite a few years ago...sounds like they've changed things. For some different rigging alternatives, check out www.captaindownriggins.com and click on "rigging" to get to "deadly hoochie rigging secrets"

That is very cool!! I have used the "slow roll" and I have double stacked glow hoochies before. Thanks for the link.

Thanks SB for the link. Some interesting ideas to add to my hoochies collection. Now I know I need a larger tackle box and boat.

Re: My Hoochie Pic's for Sakana
I asked Captaindownriggins about the hook placement on his hoochies and here's his reply:
When trolling for salmon at faster speeds the hoochies tend to roll with the rotation of a flasher. This offers one hook point in any direction, or angle of attack, of the fish's strike..
With a dodger and side-to-side action vice rotation, I would recommend keeping the hooks "in line" and opposing (bending) the stinger hook in the opposite direction. This will really open up the bite area significantly.

Re: My Hoochie Pic's for Sakana
I use a very small corkie inside the hoochie...no problem with the plastisizer from the hoochie attacking/melting. A bead above and a Mack's smiley blade.

Re: My Hoochie Pic's for Sakana
I have tried cutting off 1/4" of the nose on my hoochie, then Gluing a S/G in the nose. Makes em spin & has a lot more action.
I have also used T cones in the hoochie, just push the cone from the rear into the nose of the hoochie to really spread out the legs for a different look & action.
I like the looks of those R&K hoochies, got to try them!!

Chris, The dye has changed and there is no more problem with sticky beads. Here is another little thing people can do to the hooch. Cut off every other leg to get more light into the besds or what ever you have inside the hooch. Robbie

Re gluing hoochie into the nose of s/g: I have had very good results doing that on a larger scale for ocean salmon. The s/g (if rigged right) will really put a spin on the hoochie. Should work with kokes on the smaller scale.

We have heard about spinglows, spinner blades and smiley blades placed ahead of hoochies. Let me add another: Martin's "thin twin" propeller type blades. They are at least as light as the smileys and allow the hoochie action imparted by the dodger to remain the same. Had good luck with this set-up.

Chris,
I have never herd of GLOW glue sticks. My glow comes from overseas and I mix it. This stuff really glows. I will put it on hooks I have tied and go to bed. 4-6-8 hours it is still glowing in my tackle room, which is pitch dark. Believe me it is not cheep. But it is the best thing I have found. I'll send you a tied up set of hooks. You can test it out for your self.
Robbie
