Gas Prices
Got this email today (yeah i know its one of those 'send to 10 friends ones')
Anyone think this tactic would make any difference?
*************************************************
Fight back on prices
WHAT DO YOU THINK? THINK IT WOULD WORK?
Read on....Subject: GAS WAR!
Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want
gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united
action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE
SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going
around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed
at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,
whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super
cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think
that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers
need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the
pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting
ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying
gas. But, we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to
force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from
the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are
not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they
reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to
have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas
buyers.

Re: Gas Prices
Exxon sells only a very small percentage of the gas in this area. Mobil isn't in the area at all. :depressed:

Re: Gas Prices
Fish -N_Russ - Did you copy all of this email in this post? I got the same one today and it had more information and it indeed makes sense, particularly when reading the extra not included in this post. Since the email did not use an attachment there seems to be little risks and the possibility of making an impact on gas pricing is compelling. On the other hand, as with any idea, if you think you can or can't, you're probably right. We are all given the choice to be naysayers or possibility thinkers.

Re: Gas Prices
The only thing I have noticed is that my gas mileage is inversely related to the price of gas while my miles traveled remains constant.

Re: Gas Prices
the only part I omitted was the 'by sending this to 10 friends you can really help!'.......I figured we have all heard that before.
Actually lately ive been buying the 'octane boosters' at WalMart for about $1.....seems to improve my mileage about 40 miles on a tank of gas, which is good for a truck that gets about 15mpg regularly.
But getting back to the gas prices......I still dont understand why they are high again. Talk about flossing

Re: Gas Prices
Well, I just filled my tank up and paid $1.97 for Premium. $25.00 for a fill just below 1/4 tank. I do this six times a month.
That's $150 a month for gas! To drive my car.
But I pay it because I have to drive.

Re: Gas Prices
Octane boosters, you say?
Forty additional miles to the tank, you say?
Only a buck, you say?
Russ, what kind of truck do you drive?
Are there any risks with this octane booster stuff?
What kind of gas do you buy right now?

Re: Gas Prices
Well that idea might work but I just ain't sure.Seems like they have been bending us over since 1973 and we still take it because we have to.Everybody has an idea on what to do about it but nothing gets done.A few years ago they busted the oil companies for price fixing, fined them a big bunch of money, which they paid to the goverment and still went about overcharging us for the gas. It's been one excuse after another why the price keeps going up,everything from busted pipeline to busted refinery to busted boat.Bottom line is they have an excuse for it always going up and they are all just that, excuses, excuses. So many people in goverment get paid off to let this alone and not look into the gouging going on that they look the other way. They scream that the economy is in the toilet and lo and behold everytime the gas prices go sky rocketing the economy goes the other way and none of these rocket scientist has figured this out yep or maybe they think it's truly just coincedential.I dont know about every one else but when gas goes sky high,I have to get to work but I sure don't have to go to Seaside for the weekend or to see the coast. This puts a damper on Joe normal person's activities as far as running around a lot and spending extra money on doing so.And there goes the economy again down the tubes.Like I said ,dont take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Re: Gas Prices
Hmmmmm. Maybe drilling in the ANWR may be a bit more attractive?

Re: Gas Prices
The main reason for lower mpg is because of oxegenated fuel. We run the crap 6 months out of the year thanks to the EPA. We get a lower quality fuel at a higher price.

Re: Gas Prices
Gosh, I haven't seen this since ... the last time. Here's the word from snopes.com
We need a new generation of fuels sooner than later! Petroleum WILL RUN OUT.

Re: Gas Prices
A resonable approach to curing our reliance on OPEC is in order. That is why I am for John Kerry. He indicated to Jimmy Hoffa Jr. he was for drilling oil wells all over the place in America except ANWR. Honest, I heard it right from Mr Hoffa's lips and that was one of the reasons he got the backing from the union. More jobs and more oil, how can we lose. I bet that surprised the greenies. With Mr. Kerry being a man with the highest core beliefs running for President this year I am sure he will be true to his word.

Re: Gas Prices
Sparkleboy, I dont know of any dangers with octane boosters. This is using it on a Dodge Dakota V6 engine.
I've read quite a bit about bio-diesel.........seems to be a very good way to go, but of course OPEC and the big oil companies do everything to fight that.
If we spent as much on alternative fuels as we do on 'relief' to other countries........

Re: Gas Prices
Increased drilling for oil in America will not change fuel prices. Our governement is just as greedy as the next.

Re: Gas Prices
I wouldn't put octane booster in my tank. I did a couple of times but I didn't get any additional gas mileage. Maybe a little power. Also octane booster for a dollar? The stuff I bought was running almost eight bucks. But this stuff was supposed to increase the octane by seven points. All it really does is burn up your spark plugs faster. And changing mine is a three hour job. So I won't be doing anything to hasten thier demise.
I just put premium in and forget about it. My car was designed for premium "92 octane" so thats what I run. I get pings going uphill if I run regular.

Besides that Jack it's not a shortage problem but supposed downtime at the refineries...yeah right
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Oregon senator Gordon Smith for growing a pair and not caving into pressure from that "oily" group and voting against the drilling inthe ANWR.

Re: Gas Prices
If we don't have the big two in our area, who are they?
Seems we need to make a statement some how.

Re: Gas Prices
Diesel went up last night (2/25) at midnite. Then it shot up again tonight (45 minutes ago). I wasn't told how much the spike was, but my boss had me stash 30,000 gallons aside before the price went up. He doesn't do that very often, so it must have been a big jump.
