Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
Very nice ****** !
One helpful thing I didn't see mentioned, was to be sure and moisten (i.e. spit) on both parts of the knot, to ease in cinching down and seating the knot correctly. You'd be amazed at how many leaders break due to "crunched" or weakened parts of the line near the knot. By lubing it up, you avoid these friction type burns in your line. Definately not something I thought of, but a helpful thing to know.
Fish on !

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
Great post - thanks for the effort. Reminded me of some I had forgotton, and showed me a few new ones. Can't blame knot failure now on the big one that got away.

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
That uni-knot is all I've ever used on sturgeon leaders and braided line - works perfect for both! We've landed well over a thousand sturgeon on the uni-knot without any knot failures.

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
Berkley briad Knot, I'd been taught that one as a "Rivers inlet knot " ??? Works great for me, use it on mi main line to swivel.

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
Those illustrations are very nicely done. Over on Steelheader.net (I believe I can post this link because it is a link off the IFISH homepage ) they have a good selection of knot diagrams as well, some of which were not listed above. http://www.steelheader.net/knots/knots.htm
I've got a knot question. Which is the best knot for conjoining braided (20lb or less) to mono (around 10 to 12lb)? I've heard people here on IFISH say that using two uni-knots works well. I also read an article in STS where the author preached using the twisted 4x Surgeon's knot.

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
The rivers inlet knot is all I use for braid and for joining leaders to swivels. Its a great knot that tests out stronger than the line itself if tied properly. If you hang up and break off your leader, the line breaks just below the knot every time. That's a strong knot! With most lines, you only need to go around three or four times. Just don't let the lines cross when you tie it.

Re: Fishing Knots - Diagrams
I tried out the twisted surgeons knot last fall when jigging and mooching for chinook. Its a great knot too!
