Hopefully they will take charge of the situation on their own. I have a friend from Pakistan, who still has family there. I can only pray they stay safe.

Stratfor.com is a pay website that does analyis of Geopolitical events.
They are very accurate.

They are saying that now that Iraq is disposed of by the United States we will focus Osama.

The effort is to get Pakistan to help or at least cooperate. But soon one way or the other when the
weather warms up it will be open season on Al Quadi. What I like about this site is that they report on stuff you will not see on the nightly news. If you subscribe to Stratfor you will know stuff before anyone else.

I would like to print the whole article here but I don't know if Jennie would approve or if Stratfor
would allow it.

The jest of it is We are going to root out Osama from his hiding place. They know within a short range where he is.

I will be glad when it's all over.

If you have followed the history of the middle east you will note that conflicts in that region take centuries. With modern technology "that region" now includes your kitchen.

The biggest problem in this country right now is that Americans are used to wars that resolve themselves within days, months or at worst a few years.

Not this time.

I'd hazard to guess that terror has existed since the dawn of man. Its nothing new really. Always has been, always will be. Doesn't reall keep me up at night....when my number is drawn, my number is drawn. In the meantime, I can only hope that my government, and the other governments around the world do what they can, when they can, to keep the world as safe as possible. That, combined with a generous dose of religion, keeps me sane.

Tight lines.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">They killed 3,000 of your countrymen. That is truly "new".

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">The problem is, that they will never lose the ability to hurt us. It doesn't take large amounts of resources to wreak havoc. Look at what the Palestinians are doing to the Israelis. All it takes is the will to bring the war to us.

No, I think the war won't be over until they no longer hate us.

Happybrew --- You pose a fascinating question. Do we win the war on terror by defeating those who hate us, or do we win the war on terror by acting in such a way that they will no longer hate us?

I hate to think of what the world would be like today if, after Pearl Harbor, we decided to try to act in such a way that the Japanese would stop hating us.

Hmmmm....

Pakistans Northwest Frontier Province is a haven for Al Qaeda and any other terrorist seeking safe haven. The Pakistan army claims to be in control but real power lies with the tribal leaders. Getting in there to root out Osama will be no easy task. But it can be done. If we had taken a larger role in blocking the escape routes when we destroyed the alleged indestructible fortresses built into Tora Bora, rather than trust the rag tag Afghan army to do the job, Osama would most likely be dead.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Oh, please. We were attacked by another country, not by a group of rogue individuals or religious extremists. It was an act of war by an expansionist nation against another nation. In a situation like that you have no choice. Either war, or sue for peace.

Besides, the Japanese didn't hate us. We were merely in the way of their relentless expansion in the western Pacific, and our sanctions on raw material exports to Japan irritated them.
They just wanted a free hand to **** and pillage SE Asia and the Pacific. Hate had nothing to do with it. It was just business to them.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">That makes sense. So, 1pump, do you agree with Happybrew that we should perhaps stop fighting and try to help them like us? What is the best strategy for this "war on terror"?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Actually, I don't think it's that simple either. If we are not strong, they won't respect us, and they will hate us all the more. They will consider us both corrupt and weak, not just corrupt. Remember, this is the culture that conquered Spain and made it halfway up France from one direction, and was knocking on the gates of Vienna and threatening Italian shipping from the other. They have been at this for fourteen hundred years. They're not going to stop anytime soon.

We must not project weakness. By the same token, we cannot project corruption either. When they view the garbage coming out of Hollywood, it doesn't help. They admire much about us. They need to admire more. We need to think long term on this issue. It's not something that the government can do much about, though. I think the biggest anti-terrorism tool is an upright life. We need more people wielding those tools.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">That's not what I said. I said it wouldn't stop until they stopped hating us. We can no more roll over and be nice than Israel can. They gave the Palestinians 99% of what they wanted, and then the extremists got worse.
