Re: Interesting election issue
Heard a discussion about this the ohter day on NPR. I was quite amused, and befuddled, by the countless people who were interviewed about their vote for Kerry who had this sort of answer:
Question...why did you vote for Kerry? Is it because he best aligns with your ideologies and values, and will work for what you feel will make the country better?
Answer...No. In fact, I dont like Kerry. But I like the others less and just want Bush out of office.
They had about 3-4 people who gave that sort of response. I was amazed...and saddened. The article you linked basically says the same thing...he's possibly more liked as a winner than respected as a politician. The "lets beat Bush no matter what the cost" mentality is an interesting one at best.
Not saying that all Kerry supporters feel that way...just seems to be what the article mentions, and what that NPR interview said. I did those presidential survey things, and they both pointed at Kerry for me. If/when he wins, I'll research him before voting. I'll have to see something pretty good though before being swayed from Bush.
Gonna be a crazy ride either way.

Re: Interesting election issue
It's been a long time since I've had the option of voting for someone I actually wanted to win. It's always been a lesser of two evils situation. But this seems a little ridiculous.
The article seems to imply that voting for Kerry on the "beat Bush" basis is actually setting folks up for the opposite. He might lose because people don't like him well enough. Guess we'll see.

Re: Interesting election issue
I think this indicates that amoung the party faithful, the lesson of Gore and Nader is still very fresh.
I've kinda liked Kerry all along. I liked Clark more, but that is not to be.

Re: Interesting election issue
I think some of us picked Kerry quite a few months ago...just seemed like he would be "right".
And don't tell me that there weren't lots of people in this country who voted for Bush because Gore seemed even worse...I darn near did.
It seems like we're stuck with the lesser of two evils, all the time.
I still would've voted for McCain!

Re: Interesting election issue
TR,
Before thinking of voting for McCain you might just research "The Keating Five". All 5 of them should have been put in prison.

Seems like it is always a case of "Do you want your right leg broken or your left arm and left leg broken?"

Re: Interesting election issue
Actually, Keta, that's one of the things I like about him.
He screwed up...but was not found to have done anything illegal by a Senate committee full of Democrats, and fully owns up to the fact that he did things that while not illegal, were "improper" and stupid, and he calls it a learning experience.
Not many politicians will fess up to that.

Re: Interesting election issue
Politicians will rarely convict politicians, no mater what party they belong to. Keeting got of with a hand slap, the Keeeting 5 made off with some bucks, and the S&L members lost their life savings. Not my idea of fair or good presidential material.
And what about the McCain/Feingold Incumbent Reelection Act?
I'd rather vote for Algore
McCain Presidential Material.......NOT!

"Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father." -- John McCain
That right there could get him elected...
