thx
I suspected as much

I don't know what that guy was thinking
he seemed pretty sure that he could keep them
I had just let go about a 13 inch steelhead
that would have made a nice meal,

maybe a jack?

I think trout season closes Oct 31. I'd have to check the regs to dbl check.

Alsea:

May 22 - Aug no bait and artificial flies and lures. You can retain two fish between 8-20" and one over 20". Rainbows over 20"considered steelhead and salmon under 15" considered trout except coho which are always coho regardless of size.

So yes it is open to bait now closed for retention of trout!

Default alsea question

Someone told me you can keep trout on the alsea , is this true ? I thought trout were catch and release.

Also can you fish with bait on the alsea

I've looked to the guide I can't seem to find it .
It looks to me like it says after trout season (May ) you can keep trout. But I saw and talked to a local that was fishing for Bluebacks he called them.
I'm guessing they are sea run cutthroats

And I can't see use of bait allowed in the guide but I saw sandshrimp on the bank .

you can use bait on the alsea but I think the trout season runs concurent with trout season state wide I do not believe you can keep them year around on any costal river.

and yes blue backs are like a a sea run cutthroat and are usually thick in the rivers this time of year filling them selves on fresh eggs.
