Default Turbo Tax Updates

For those of you who use Turbo Tax, I just did an online chat with them and they said the Federal online updates should be available by Feb 15th. I didn't ask about the State updates since I do those by hand.

Yeah, I probably should do the State on the computer, but once my Fed forms are done I can fill in the State by hand in about 10 minutes. But I am starting to do more of my banking online these days!

A while back we started downloading information from the bank via Quicken. No more manual reconciliations (then again, we didnt do it before, so now we know exactly how much we have).

Then we started online bill pay through B of A (after some initial confusion from Quicken)...and that is heavenly. We store the information for bills or others that we cut checks to on a regular basis...now its just pull up the screen, drop down list find the person, fill in the amount, click, done. I've told my wife that we may never cut a manual check again...or very rarely at least. Next step is to set up an automatic payment each month to our church...now we wont even need the checkbook on Sunday mornings. Maximized laziness...er, I mean efficiency.

The state form for Oregon for Turbo Tax will be available on Feb. 17th. I'm willing to eat the $30 cost for state filing just because it's all deductible on your taxes (preparation fees). And it's just easier to do it all that way.

Speaking of e-banking, we went to get our Xmas tree this year and I knew they wouldn't be taking debit (and I rarely carry cash anymore) so I dragged along the checkbook. Turns out the last check I wrote was for last year's Xmas tree!

Turbo Tax on the web was available yesterday. I finished my state (Oregon) return and filed both federal and state online last night.... Using Turbo Tax. Unfortunately, I had my last years child tax credit entered wrong and it got rejected! Hopefully it's fixed now. I'm just getting $400 less than I originally thought.

When I tried to update this morning, it said they weren't ready yet, and the online chat person said by the 15th. I tried again this evening, and they were available. Maybe it depends on what version you're using. Anyway, Fed is now filed, and State will go in the mail tomorrow.
