Default Glow beads for lures

Looking to find a place to buy glow beads to make kokanee lures. Know of RGT, is there any other good place to buy them? Also what are the main colors that you use for wedding rings. Do you think that brass and nickel work work better than the glow blades on this type of lure. Been out of kokanee fishing for about 30 years, just started fishing them again last summer. Read most of the posts here, but would still like some imput on the lures and color. Most people that fish here in Idaho use the squids instead of the wedding rings now, any reason for this? Thanks Grizz

I look in every little tackle shop that I walk into for beads and sometimes I am quite surprised and which little hole-in-the-wall Mom and Pop shop has some of the rarest little items. As far as blades I have used primarily nickel and some brass but knowing what little I do know about kokes, there will likely be days (or hours in a day) that glow blades will outproduce metallic ones. My favorite glow bead spinner this year was green glow with a hammered nickel blade. As far as squids are concerned, like most things in koke fishing there are times when a dodger and a squid is the only thing they will bite.

Get some crappie tubes there cheap, but the dodgers required aren't. Hunt for Elktalkers posts & Pictures for the spinners, he is bowed down to by some of the best...

Go to a bead shop. You will find a LOT of different beads. I like the glass ones and the crystal ones. Look around and buy them on sale, or they can be a bit pricey.

Put some small size Spin & Glows in front of 2-3 Glow Beads with 2 red hooks then watch out! ....Kokonuts

Check out Janns Netcraft on the internet they have what you are looking for. I prefer the Macks Lure smile blades they rotate at a lot slower speed which I prefer as sometimes the slower the better ! Good Luck, Please post pics of some of your creations

Radical Glow sell the best glow beads I have found but they are more expensive. I had some cheaper glow beads that after a year no longer glow.

I use glow lures in low light situations like early morning, late evening, deep water, or in cloudy water. Most of my spinners are made in 4mm or 5mm beads but in cloudy water a 6mm center bead often works better.

Spinner blades change the look of your lure as it flashes through the water so you should have some glow blades and some nickel blades. Nickel blades cause more of a strobe like effect to your spinners and glow blades are always glowing. Larger blades slow down the strobe effect so I would also buy some larger blades in both nickel and glow.

Kokanee usually hit a hoochies/squids harder then spinners. I love fishing with hoochies, which is probably why you see more people fishing them. On my boat spinners are more consistent so that is why I have several hundred spinners and only 50 or so hoochies. If the fishing is slow or it drastically slows down I usually switch to spinners until I find a speed or color that starts working again.

Good luck ET,
Some of my glow spinners

Elktalker, your second spinner pic appears to be made like a wedding ring with stack beads. Is there a source for glow stack beads? I've been looking for years.

I found them on Ebay. Not the best quality beads but they work.

E.T., would you mind posting a few pix on how you set up your hoochies. Just wondering if there are different ways fish them. Thanks.

Go to their website and click on the online store, then go down to components. Also, e-mail them for a free catalog. In years past Mac's has had a booth at the Sportsman Show with a great variety of their lure building supplies.
