Tried a broker?

I wonder if they've worked the bugs out of the 6.0?

Yes!

You need to sell your truck yourself and go in with your own down payment and pre-aproved financing. Then wait for the paper to come out on Friday or Saturday with the 10K off MSRP add's for the truck you want and drive straight to the stealership. I did it twice on two Ford trucks. Just say, "I want the truck in this add for this price." They try and talk into all kinds of stuff but stick to the advertised price and exact truck.

If you try and trade a truck in they are going to hose you.

Good luck,
Ken

Pretty much what my bro paid for his, equiped the same as you mentioned, full meal deal. Brokers are hard to get with anymore. I have done the internet broker thing in the past, but since then the web sales are becoming just like the lot guys. I bought my truck through fleet but I doubt I could pull it off again???

I agree with what Kroy put in his post. I love to buy cars - have done the ad car thing a number of times. Just did that for my brother in laws girlfriend 2 weeks ago. First thing Saturday morning, look at the car ads in the paper, go to the dealership as soon as you can in the morning. The sales guys will proabably tell you the ad car/truck is already sold but don't believe them. They do all kinds of stuff like hide car/truck at back of lot or whatever to try and sell you something else. Thats what they did on the Mazda I just helped buy. They said the 2 they had were just sold even though I was at dealership by 8:30 in moring. Since it takes about 2 hours to complete a car sale with all paperwork I asked the sales guys how they could sell them so fast. After I got a little ****y with them - guess what all of a sudden cars reappeared! Anyway, any time you can get an ad car thats the best deal. Is often times less then invoice, less than fleet, less than broker can get it for - problem is usually they only have a couple so can't be picky about color. Also, ad cars almost always have something missing - like a trailer hitch, or some other option. Thats how they suck you into buying another car/truck and spending more money. Ad cars come in from factory for no the reason than to get you to the dealership. But they are a great deal.

One last bit of advice, for whatever reason it seems that come March or April you will see the best ad car/truck deals - don't know why but from about March to middle of May you will so more than you do now. Then in summer they go away since new cars start hitting dealers so they don't need to have the ad since new models in. Good luck and remember, first thing in Saturday mornings paper look for ads- even better if end of month - sales guys are desperate to get thier quota in for month and will want to work with you.

I agree with Thumper. My gaud that's an expensive ride.

A few years back I was in the market for a Toyota Tacoma type pickup. I saw the cheap ones in the paper, and like earlier posts said, by the time I got there, shucks, the last one just left the lot.

Then late one Friday afternoon, I picked up the Saturday paper. They are usually available by abot 3:00. I saw just what I wanted at Gresham Toyota, even included the VIN of the 4 available 'at that price'. So I thought I'd take a look see to see what they looked like and drove by that evening. As you can imagine, as soon as I set foot on the lot, I had salesmen all over me. So, told them I had the Saturday paper, and wanted to see what the 4 looked like, and if I liked what I saw, would be back first thing in the morning. They asked if I would buy it that price tonight if offered. I said sure, and the deal was done. At least this way, they couldn't really tell me that they had all been sold.

Thanks guys. I tried the broker thang, same deal as dealers. The 10K off MSRP is only a number game if you have a trade. My trade retails at 28 on the lots, I only owe 22, no one will give more than 19K for my trade. From what I can tell all the dealerships get at least invoice price (do not confuse invoice with MSRP!) or 500 to 1K over invoice. If you have a trade expect to get much less for it if the new rig has 10K off MSRP. So far it has been my experience that the big ad sales get you no better off than when the ad price is not offered when you have a trade involved. The best deal so far has been at Suburban Ford in Sandy. The term and payment schedule they have worked out for me has me paying a total of 5500 bucks in interest over the life of the loan, for a loaded F250. I have done much worse than that in my life. I may go with that deal. AND yes the bugs have been worked out on the 6.0, the 7.3 is discontinued.

Strgnslyr, Dave at Doherty gave me a call today. He had been trying to return my messages. He seems to be a straight shooter and a nice guy. I will see what he can do for me.

Oregonmuley, the best deal on a new F250 will occur exactly 24 hrs AFTER I buy my new rig, regardless of what time of year I buy it! I cannot afford to wait around here. I have had my Chevy for 4 mos and have put over 10K miles on it. By the end of the year I will put on another 15-20K. The longer I have it the less its worth on the market.

Gus, thanks, that's what I figured folks were probably paying. I will wait to hear a few more folks tell me what they paid.

You might look for a last years model(2003). Also look in the door and see what the build date is. Try and negotiate on the oldest truck in the lot. Dealer's don't like to sit on a vehical more than 6 months, they have to finance them. Also research on the web and see what "dealer" incentives Ford is giving out. End of the month is a better time to negotiate. Also, look for the lost leaders in the paper.

Good luck!

BH, its actually Loss leaders.. Its generally the new rigs advertised in Saturday and sunday papers for way below Retail. They are generally below invoice as well. The catch is to get them 1st thing on saturday #, Find the exact one you want (has to be listed in the add) and purchase it. Dealers generally want to sell loss leaders first thing on saturday mornings, they'll blow you out on sundays genreally if there is one left because they don't want to to lose money. They are a really good deal, expect a boat load of hassles with salesman trying to land you on a different vehicle and little added costs, hold strong though and you'll come out just fine in the end.

You can figure the price the dealer paid by going to Edumunds.com OOPS - they now only have "True Market Value" Check out CarBuyingTips and use their dealer invoice finder and other tips. When you know what the dealer cost is you have part of the picture. You will not be able to know what the "hold back" or other dealer rebates or incentives are, but it will give you a pretty good starting place to negotiate. Also, you can avoid the numbers game if you can sell your old vehicle yourself - get it out of the calculation for the new rig. I have also put together a spreadsheet showing all the option costs when I've gone car shopping. You can figure the cost of any car on the lot and if you build in a payment calculation, plugging in the numbers will let you figure the payment to expect. If the payment the dealer tells you is more, you need to figure out why - look for service or insurance or warrantee add ons. With a well constructed spreadsheet and a notebook computer you can figure this stuff faster than the salesman can and that puts you in a better position to negotiate a good deal.

Best Fishes has a 99 F-350 diesel for half of what the new ones are going for. Looks like a pretty good deal.

Here is what I do. I sell my truck on the open market. No trade in take it in the shorts garbage. I walk right past the salesmen trying to jump me as soon as I get out of the rig. I go straight to receptionist in the show room and ask for the fleet manager. Tell the fleet Mngr. you are willing to pay $400.00 hundred over factory invoice and that is it. You will save yourself at the least $2,000 and maybe more if you have poor bargaining skills. This makes it really easy. Once you get a price then go to another dealership and do the same thing. You will find that a factory invoice is somehow different from dealer to dealer. Very interesting since a factory invoice should be the same to all dealers. You might just save another couple hundred dollars. Once you have decided which dealer you will purchase from, go back in and give them your social security number to determine what percentage rate you qualify for. At the fleet level you shouldn't be asked to fill out all the unnecessary paperwork. All they need is a social and you'll know in a few minutes where you stand.

If you feel uncomfortable with this then let me know and I will be happy to go with you. You will never go through the here is our number written in black on a sheet of paper again. I'm serious about going along to get the best deal if you like. It really is that simple. Just remember $400.00 over factory invoice is all the further you will go.
