Caribbean Vacation
I guess this is one of those times where a man has to give in if he ever wants to buy a new boat or spend time fishing on the weekends ever again.
We are thinking of doing a 7 to 10 day trip to somewhere relaxing. The “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem” vacation if you will. Warm climate, warm clear water to snorkel and swim in, white sand beaches, good food, and an abundance of adult beverages. We haven’t ruled out a cruise, but don’t think that is what we want to do.
We have not had any in depth discussions with a travel agent yet. Just picked up some brochures with lots of pretty pictures. I’ve been doing a lot of online looking around in the evenings but suffer from info overload fairly quickly.
So, anyone have any advice, info, stories, etc.?
How about info on places like Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Cancun, Belize?
Anyone do the “all-inclusive” resort like Sandals or Superclub?
How about a Travel Agent who’s an ifisher? (Email me your contact info)
Thanks.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
I did a 7 day cruise about 10 years ago with my wife on the Carribean. We had ports of call in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Haiti. The cruise is well worth the money you pay for it.
If you are looking for a real nice place, I would go back to the Cayman Islands. Maybe spend some time on each of the three islands. There is fishing there. The snorkeling and scuba diving is incredible.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Waterdog, We spent the last two years at the same "All Inclusive/Adults Only" resort in Puerto Vallarta in. We always went in Feb. We are thinking of going again.
The sand isn't white (Pacific side), but if you like just relaxing in 85 degree sun and being waited on while at the edge of a pool, it's the perfect place.
No Kids means not getting hit by a frisbee or Nerf ball. It was great! Crown Paradise Virtual shot may take a few seconds to load!
Get a hold of me at work on Wed if you want to know more. Tim

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Money should be no object on a trip like this
I would recommend jet setting at the same place the Rich and Famous frequent. Your wife deserves to be treated to the best, doesnt she? Email me her address and I will be happy to give her some suggestions.
Last time I took my wife on a carribean style vacation I spared no expense treated her to lots of jewelry so she could remember the trip, had her pampered daily. It was really a nice time and you should do the same for your wife.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
We enjoyed Sandals Negril in Jamaca.
Don't tell your wife though, it's located right next door to Hedonism II.
You may have a hard time convincing her why you always want to go back though.
Best beach of any of the Sandals resorts, but it's quite a long 2 hour Taxi/bus drive from the Airport.Great food, good watersports and decent Sportfishing right from the resort.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
I went to Hedonism II years ago in Jamaica...and had a great time. Very big party atmosphere there. As for the no shoes/no shirt...heck, they'll let you walk around no pants too if you want! But its definately a party place...so if you're looking for tame low key fun, that may not be the place for you.
For a slightly more low key place, Couples was right next door. Didnt go there though...but that section of the island/beach is beautiful...and its a 20 minute shuttle to Negril for some shopping.
While not Carribean, my wife and I went to Cabo last May and had a fantastic time and stayed at an awesome place. We'd go back to Cabo in a heartbeat!!
Keep us posted on where you decide...and post pictures...assuming you dont go to Hedonism II.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Headonism II!!!!!! Rich, please don't send us any ifish.net reports featuring you bro.
Sounds like you're gonna have some fun but why the heck go there. Alaska man, Alaska!!!!! That's where the real men take their wives. And yes they have fine dinning, expensive jewlery but I don't think you want to do any nuddist beaches there.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Hedonism II? Sounds like a place where you don't want to catch anything.
Rich,
How about a relaxing "Farm Vacation" in beautiful South East Oregon? No shoes (rubber boots), no shirt (a jacket is need) and no problems (well......) Just think up at sunrise to the sounds of chickens and starving sheep, manure up to your ankles, irrigating all day, dust and pollen, nice restfull sleep at night. Well I think your wife had a better idea.
Have fun

Re: Caribbean Vacation
My wife and I went to Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas a few years ago. It was great. The resort is all inclusive, and they really offer some decent package deals. The casino is awsome and since it's outside the US, no taxes on your winnings!Thier marina is incredible, you'll see some of the most amazing yahats in the world. If you want any more info feel free to send me an e-mail or pvt message.

YOYOYOYOYOY Dog!
The wife and I are going to Jamaica the last 10 days of May.
It seems like a really fair deal to me. We are staying at a very moderate Holiday Inn that is all inclusive. You can definitely go 'high brow,' but since we've never been before we thought we'd stay low and save a couple scheckles to explore the island with.
Cool Tex - nice to see you Baylor Boys representin' at the local Hedo Fest. Nice!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Careful in exploring that island. When we were there we were warned about straying off the path too far.... white people=money there. Its a beautiful place though...it was a nice place to let it all hang out, so to speak.
Redbull...Baylor is all about wild party scenes, not just cults and murdering basketball players. When are we fishing again? GBS said you could catch fish, but I didnt see it.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Stayed at Sandals Montego Bay. The only negative was the planes flying over.(the resort is right next to the airport)but it wasnt that big a deal. You might look into the Negril or Ocho Rios sandals in Jamaica..Great food, all the adult beverages you want. Nice beaches. We will go again

Re: Caribbean Vacation
I guess I should have written some rules, like “Bait o eggs is not allowed to post on this thread.” Roy, sounds like Keta has a vacation right down your alley. My wife will be in touch with your wife real soon.
Tim, we’ll talk.
Bernie, this is the wife’s vacation. Lord knows she deserves it. This will likely be a one time thing. Alaska is on the wish list.
CT, I read about your trip to Cabo. That is on the wish list as well.
Redbull, are you staying at the Holiday Day Inn Sunspree? I may want to talk at you after your trip.
Otolith, something else to concider. Looks cool!
I hope some of you won’t mind an email or PM in the coming months. I may want to ask a few specific questions. Right now we are looking at doing this next year.
The wife is eyeing the Sandals resorts and likes Negril and Ocho Rios. Hedonism is probably a little party-ish for us although the scenery maybe eye catching. Don’t worry, any “au natural” pics will be in my private collection. We are going there to have fun though.
Would like to know if there is an ifisher who is travel agent. Didn’t find one on the user list.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
My wife and I have ben blessed to do several "sun" vacations, like cruises and most of the Hawaiian Islands. But for my money, CRUISE!
You have not been on a vacation until you've done a cruise. And for the money, it is very reasonble and you can get some great deals. If you add up the costs for airfare, car rental, hotel, food, entertainment, time to plan activities, a cruise is a steal.
We did a western Caribbean, Cozumel, Montego Bay and Caymans. Missed the Caymans due to hurricane. Didn't care much for Jamaica (white people do = money and they are very aggressive). But frankly, I wouldn't care if we never got off the boat. Being out in the water and sun, having everything brought to me and great evening entertainment, it was fantastic. This is from the guy who told his wife for years, "How boring".

Re: Caribbean Vacation
If you go to Jamaica, ask the barkeep at your resort to make you a Bob Marley Crown. They are lovely drinks.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Rich,
The wife and I have done a couple of Sandal's vacations. A bit of sticker shock up front, but you really don't need your wallet once you are on their properties. Some really good food options. Booze is free. Weak drinks, but you can have 30 of them if you want.
We did a week at St. Lucia (Grande St. Lucian) and a week at Antigua.
St. Lucia was a prettier island but the beaches at Antigua were incredible. Diving was better at Antigua also. We were diving a wreck off Antigua and I checked my guages. At 47 feet, the water temp was 77 degrees. Did I mention marlin fishing at St. Lucia. Pretty reasonable.
I would give Sandal's a good recommendation. Gini and I would like to go back soon.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
If you go with Sandals, bypass the travel agent. You can call them directly and get a great deal. Like BR said, it seems like alot of $$ upfront but figure that ALL meals and drinks are included and no gratuities are excepted. First class place all the way. And yes, you can get a nice cheeseburger to eat on the beach at 1:00am after WAY to many redstripes.

Re: Caribbean Vacation
Foxer,
If I call Sandals directly, will they do the air travel stuff too or is that something I'll do seperately?
The sticker price is a shocker but just penciling it out, it is at the minimum a push in cost. Add in the included activities you would normally pay for and it gets better. Weak drinks or not, I figure on getting my money's worth in that department.
Sure is a lot to think about.
