Wanted to take advance of the beautiful sunny weather at the coast, so my brother-in-law and I took off for Devils Lake. Didn't start fishing until 11:30, but still caught 3 nice rainbows about 16". Lost another 2 fish. One broke the line, (6 lb) and the other fish just wanted to see how fast I could get out of my seat.
Caught 2 on a white glow in the dark hoochie, with red beads, corn, and #2 bronzes blade. The other fish on a red wedding ring, no corn. Didn't seem to have any luck with the usual green wedding rings or the green rooster tails.
The lake is starting to clear from the alge and is worth a shot for the winter fishing. Especially for people like me that like relaxed fishing and not freeze their *** off. We were the only boat on the lake fishing. The only other boat was a skier, that got to close. If I was using a side planer, I probably would have hooked him. Just doesn't make sense, with a lake that big, he had to get that close.
