Computer for my family????
I need to find a computer for my family. My brother and dad were sitting on the couch in the living room of our house when sparks started flying out of our old one. Probably not good anymore....
They are looking for one around $1000. I have a gateway 700 XL mean machine for school with all the goodies and have had no problems. They don't need one that fancy.
What I was wondering was if anyone has any input on a brand or place to purchase a computer like that at a reasonable price. Any input would be great.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Computer for my family????
go with the standard gateway or dell. just seen one of the advertisements for dell $499.00. even if you add a little extra it won't be that much. and they have a warranty and you know they are not going to go out of business the next day.

Re: Computer for my family????
Mr Carp, there are always deals to be had online if you have the time to wait and search for them. I can hook you up with a few good sites to watch if you're interested. PM me if so.
Also...if you decide on Dell, I can probably help you save some money, depending on how much the system is. Lot of coupons out in the world for Dell.

Re: Computer for my family????
Dell, You can get alot more for your money. I bought a Laptop with 512 ram, 40 gb storage, Pentium 4 processor, and 64 gh graphics for $1364, you can get the same thing as a desk top for around $800. They always have some kinda deals going on too. Lots of discounts.

CT: Do you know where I could look to get a deal on a CTL 7GX Flat Panel?

Re: Computer for my family????
CTL is a local component distibutor/computer reseller. No real deals on those to be found on the net. Try Bimart, they carry them. Or better yet, look for a NEC in the Fry's adds..good deal. CTL contracts with an
"unknown " type manufacturer that makes them for them.

Re: Computer for my family????
Thanks for the information foxer. It's interesting that of all the monitors that I've dealt with through work, friends, and my own, the CTL's have been the best ones. That's why I am looking for another.

Re: Computer for my family????
Hey Keta: There's a free program for Windows 3.11 called Calmira XP. It makes your computer at least look like it's running Windows XP. It's also a little easier to navigate. I loaded it on our 3.11 machine for my five year old.
We have two E-Machines computers, and I've been happy with them.

Re: Computer for my family????
I'll look around...but early glimpses dont turn up much for a CTL 7GX. I'll keep looking though.

Re: Computer for my family????
Sorry...I can barely even find anyone that sells them, let alone find a deal on them.

Re: Computer for my family????
Thanks CT. I'm having the same problem. Foxer pointed out that thay are a local re-seller. I'll just have to find another brand that would do also.
