Gillnetters vs Hogliners
I called the Coast Guard and asked this question. If I'm anchored out of the channel and a gillnetter comes along do I have to move? I talked to three individuals and they all said the samething,NO. They also said if the gillnetters harrass or wake you, record the offending boats numbers then call the Coast Guard immediately. For any further clarification please call 503-240-9365.

Re: Gillnetters vs Hogliners
I'm not a gillnet lover by any means, in fact just the opposite but my theory is this - While they're in, let them get their fish and then get them out of the river - the sooner the better! Parking a flotilla in the middle of their drift only creates hostility and they've already been given their quota numbers, our beef should be with the powers that be that keep giving them seasons. You would do more damage at the capitol with that flotilla - we HAVE already proven that!

Re: Gillnetters vs Hogliners
My intention for this information was due to a run in last summer with a gillnetter off Gov. Is. I was one of eight boats hoglined on the wall. Gillnetter shows up and says we have to move so he can fish,we said no thanks we like it here,he proceeds to cork the line about 20ft behind our boats. I just want to know my rights while anchored out of the channel. Rest assured next summer there will be no dissrepecting of sportfisherman, cus I've got the Coast Guard on speed dial.

You read my mind Freespool. Today while driving to work I had wondered the same thing. Thanks for posting.
I too will have my phone on speed dial for the Coasties if an incident occurs.

Re: Gillnetters vs Hogliners
Like it or not, both groups have rights to the river.
He asked you to move, you didn't, he fished, you didn't like it....
My point is if you want that changed, work to change the laws. A confrontation on the water is not the time or place.
Yet another reason to "say nope to rope"

Holy Sit-ins Batman!
I like that idea. Imagine 40 or 50 boats in a small stretch of the river. They couldn't drift through all that. I am boatless but would like to see that happen.
