Default Diamond Lake Vacation Rentals

I'm considering next summer, taking the family to Diamond lake for a pilgrimage/reunion. It would be 8-10 people.

As a kid I remember there being a bunch of really nice homes along the west side of the lake and was wondering if anyone had tips on if those homes are rentals or not...and how to rent one if they are.

Let me know what you think.

Dan

We were there in August, but I don't recall seeing a lot of homes on the west side of the lake. We stayed in the cabins near the lodge at the north end and were very happy with the accommodations.

The homes on the west side all all private homes on land leased from the forest service. There may be rentals available, but I'm not aware of a service that would tell you how to rent one. My family has one of the cabins, but does not offer it as a rental.

this is second hand information and you're welcome to check it out but it's my understanding that the homes cannot be rented out under the conditions in their land deeds. Something to do with the resort I believe.

Our group of 10 has a nice cabin that sleeps 12 reserved for next June. It is adjacent to the public launch just down from the resort and even has its own boat dock. Can't speak to its quality personally, but was recommended to us by others. Not cheap...call the resort for more info or stop by to see them at the Portland outdoor show or Eugene show.

The cabins at the resort would work great for such an outing... maybe a couple of them side by side.

nwsoftball, could you please inform me on how these private homes on different public lakes around Oregon, like Diamond, Crescent, and Odell were obtained ? Do you have to bribe a congressman or what ? I sure would like to build myself a home on one of these lakes.

TS,
As nwsoftball says, the homes are sitting on leased ground. The NFS leasing program in the northwest was discontinued many years ago. Back then I imagine it was a who you knew deal.
As far as aquiring one of these today if you check with some of the realitors in the area and let them know you are interested I'm sure they would conact you when one came up for sale. I know the homes at Diamond seemed to be sold mainly through the Roseburg realitors.
In most cases they are passed down through generations or to different family members or friends, however I have seen them being put up for sale but they don't stay on the market long. There is a Diamond Lake Home Owners Association, maybe they would have some good info for you.

Good luck with your dream!
