TV Viewer Sues Over Janet Bra-Ha-Ha

For Janet Jackson (search), it was the breast of times, but for one Tennessee woman it was so bad that she is filing a federal lawsuit demanding billions of dollars in damages.

Bank worker Terri Carlin (search) wants compensation for herself and millions of viewers "injured" by the lewd behavior of Jackson and fellow performer Justin Timberlake (search) during Sunday's Super Bowl coverage.

On Wednesday Carlin filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in federal court in Knoxville, Tenn., against Jackson, Timberlake, broadcasters MTV and CBS and their parent company, Viacom.

The suit fails to specify what injuries Carlin suffered when she saw Timberlake rip off part of Jackson's costume, exposing her breast, saying only that: "As a direct and proximate result of the broadcast of the acts, [Carlin] and millions of others saw the acts and were caused to suffer outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury."

The lawsuit argues the broadcast companies and the singers breached an "implied" contract with viewers not to subject them to sexually explicit acts during what should have been family entertainment.

"All of the defendants knew that the Super Bowl, the preeminent sports event in the United States, would be watched by millions of families and children," says the claim, filed by attorney Wayne Ritchie II.

Jackson has apologized, saying a red lace garment was supposed to remain on her breast when an outer garment was ripped away.

She denied that the NFL, CBS or MTV, which produced the halftime show, knew her plan.

I'm mad as heck about this thing but this is one stupid lawsuit. Yes I suffered a serious eye injury and dropped my plate of food on the floor and incured loses of appe"*** "e and had to explain to my children why this all happened. [img]graemlins/berry.gif[/img] But a frivelless lawsuit like this is exactly WRONG.

Jackson should have been arrested for indecent exposure (although some may say she looked pretty good) and processes just as that stupid streaker was. Nothing like being previlleged.

The network should be able to sue her for damages, but no one else. You would be just as "damaged" watching Joe Thiesman or Tim Krumrie replays. And you have every potential for seeing something like that when you sit down for a football game. Personally, seeing those legs snap wasn't nearly as disturbing as seeing JJ's jubbly. That's an image I may never be able to get rid of......ewwwwwwwww......gotta go shower now....I feel so dirty.......

while it was a dumb stunt (and I believe planned) who can say

a) they actually saw her body part (without reviewing it on tivo)

b) they were "damaged" by the event.

people seem to like easy things to be "outraged" by.

Lawsuit smawshoot, any way to make an easy buck. I was too busy fishing to watch the game, but I bet many American men saw the show and thought the Janet incident was just another BONUS. :grin:
