Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Hey Mr. Kitch'nPass are you out there?!
May be in the market for a new or new to me truck. Big fan of Chevy products but am willing to look at other options. Who here has a Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with diesel and who here has a F250 or F350 3/4 ton with diesel? Are you happy with your rig and its options? I decided that I wont be working on the Tahoe to make a better towing rig out of it, what I really need is a truck, just not sure which way to go.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Drive both and see which one fits you. Both are good rigs. What about Dodge? The cummins is so quite now.
I like Ford myself.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
What you really need is a red Dodge CTD dually 4x4 with electric butt warmers  . The Chevy will cost you more $$ than Dodge or Ford. The Ford chassis is nice, but the 6.0 PSD has had it's share of problem's. If you decide on a Ford, I would look for one with a 7.3PSD. With your two dogs, you might also think about a "club cab" with drool proof seats  .

Dear Tundra:
I had great results with Ford diesels! I am selling my 99 F350 X Cab Diesel(see IFish ads) and I just bought a F-450 Crew Cab diesel. I am very happy with these trucks. All I have had to replace in my 1999 F-350 was the batteries & fluids!!

Who in their right mind would drive a Ford? Their reliability is nowhere near that of a Chevy.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Just my 2Cents, have a Ford, am a Chevy lover, but in 2000 my wife wanted a grocery hauler, I wanted a Desiel, ended with 2000 350 Powerstroke, have been happy with it, bought a 40 fifth wheel and it does a good job, still just pull it down and don't push the hills, I know the tranny in the Ford auto is a little week, put an oversized tranny pan and guages on it, so maybe can squeeze a little life out of it, have 39000 and she still hauls her stapiles in it. Have fun with all you get and would maybe shift back to Chevy someday but they didn't have what I wanted at the time. Ray

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
I used to be a GM guy but they've scrued their customers so much over the years that I won't even consider one.

Chevette

Last year they ran an ad admitting that they had some problems in the past but were improving. Like someone already said just get the one that suits you. Isuzu has been making diesels for years so the motor should be good, but if you're going GM, I'd go for a GMC rather than Chevy.

'99 F250 Powerstoke crew cab with 75k miles. Great truck except the brakes. Every 15,000 miles the rotors warp and need to be turned. No other problems so far.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Phil Layer according to consumer reports only Chev that is more reliable than ford is the avalanche, and who would want one of those.
I had a 96 F250 diesel and put 225k on it with no problems. I now have a 2003 F350 with 6.0 diesel shortbed and i dont even feel the bost back there with 1000 lbs of guys in the truck, and I get about 18.4 with the boat on or off.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Thanks for the replies guys, it is valuable info.
I test drove a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Diesel longbed LS with the Duramax 6.0. The truck was listed at right around 45K. Motor was nice and quiet and it rode really nice but I was not very impressed with the interior layout. The Chevy had a good turning radius and overall handling was good BUT it just kinda reminds me of my new Tahoe, it feels like a car. Then I drove a 2004 Ford F250 Lariat XLT Power Stroke Diesel 6.0 longbed. Immediately upon sitting in this thing I was impressed. It just feels like a more substantial rig. Interior layout was gorgeous man. The ride was fantastic and the power was impressive. Full leather and power package, way nicer than the Chevy LS I drove. The Chevy LT which is more comparable to the Ford XLT will cost you about 2500 bucks more. With the 10K factory incentive the F250 loaded will run you about 36K. Has anyone gotten a better deal than this? If so where did you go?
I'm a Chevy fan but I have to admit The new Ford F-series is just plain awesome.

FORD or Dodge!! Especially if you want some clearance. All the Chevy 4x4's I see are low riders. on Chevy.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
TUNDRA....
I just bought a 3/4 ton loaded Chevy yesterday. The way I went about my purchase was to email 6 different fleet managers at 6 different dealers plus I went through the Costco program and also contacted Dave Smith Motors in Kellog Idaho.
On my request to the fleet managers I spelled out exactly what I wanted and requested that each of them give me their best no haggle deal. Results varied that their was a $4000.00 difference in what the different dealers quoted me. I then met with one Chevy dealer who was the Costco representative. They were very professional and quoted me a very attractive price. On the advice of a friend I contacted the fleet buyer at Miles Chevrolet. Told them what I wanted and they faxed me the spec sheet on 5 different trucks. I picked the one that had all of the options I wanted and asked for a quote. To my surprise they beat everybody elses price by $1000.00. I did the deal. I got a truck with a 42K MSRP for 10K off the sticker and walked away satisfied that I made a very good deal and didnt spend days going from dealer to dealer spending hours haggling on price.
My advice would be to contact a number of fleet buyers at some dealerships and tell them what you want. The fleet guy gets paid on units moved and are always happy to move a truck. Use the web to make your contacts.
Hope you search goes well.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Just take alook at this board. Do you see anything about needing a CHEVY mechanic? You see two threads here about needing a FORD mechanic. And in those threads you will see people who are in need of a FORD mechanic.
If you want quality, and not the need of a MECHANIC. buy a CHEVROLET!!!

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
I think Chevy owners are blinded by the fancy foo foo bells and whistles that mean nothing.
If you want a truck that has all the right options and can actually haul what is says it can, buy a Ford (or even a Dodge )
If you want a truck that rides like a car, looks like a car on the inside, looks like it got in a wreck on the outside, and can haul 500 lbs in a 1-ton and be overloaded, buy a chev.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
FORD or DODGE unless you live in the city and never plan on needing a truck then maybe a chevy would work maybe.... Really if you like it buy it, who really cares what the rest of us think, we don't make the payments for you.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Just a little hint. Ford is going to change the F-250-350 models for 2004. They will be dumping the 2003's starting in August. If I were going to be looking for a bargain......
Another thing..I would look for truck owners who don't like their truck and are willing to admit it. Anyone can find a flag waver for the brand they bought.

Re: Hey Mr. Kitch\'nPass........
Test drove another Ford last night. Now I need to find a dealer that will give me a decent trade in value for my Chevy. Went to Damerow in Beaverton and they tried to give me 4k under low book for my loaded Chevy Tahoe LT. Then they come out with paperwork set up for me to pay $1413.63 per month for 36 months! Who ever heard of such a thing? They treated us like crap, made several insulting comments, we caught them in two outright lies and then we walked. Oh the joys of buying a vehicle! I bought both my Chevy's from Ron Tonkin and it was a great experience both times. I need to find out if Ron Tonkin sells Fords too.

Tundra, I dont envy you. I hate the trade in game. Go to somewhere like Edmunds and figure the trade in value. Try a broker, or costco?
