You might also want to consider building up the area where your old cork was on the blank. Once removed the diameter of the area newly wrapped in cord wont be near as thick as the cork was.
I have done three cord wraps recently and used a cork tape to build the area up in diameter then wrapped the cord over that. I'm happy with the results.
If your interested I have three spools of cord, black, blue and orange/black ( for a beaver rod I'm building).
I'll be more then glad to give you enough cord to do a rod.
