Detroit Lake water level
Hello, can anyone tell me where I can find information on Detroit Lake water levels, I was up there a couple of days ago and the new ramp that was built last year is still about 25 ft. from the water. It is as low as I have ever seen it, big cliff is almost empty, and that's because they are rebuilding the generator. But they also like I said have Detroit lower than I've ever seen. Where can I find information on when they are going to start filling Detroit up. Thank you Dick

Hi, Detroit is my favorite place to fish off the dam. The water level starts going down about September and is full by March however alot of wood is washed down from the hills by melting snow and is at the dam this early. April/May is possible for fishing kokes off the dam for those of us without boats.

Re: Detroit Lake water level
Has anyone been up two Detroit dam in the last day or two. I have been trying to find information on when they are going to start filling the reservoir. Was up there about a week ago it is lower than I have ever seen. Even the new ramp at Mongoal that they extended another 200 ft. or so is still about five or 10 ft. out to the water. Where can I find information . I have looked at the Detroit dam web site and is so confusing. Thank you in advance frog

Re: Detroit Lake water level
There is a plywood structure on the upstream face of Detroit. It extends most of the way down to the low pool. I did not see any of the normal support structure that would accompany a concrete pour. There is also a temporary, caged, stair system from the top of the dam down to the base of the plywood with a porta-potty sitting on a concrete platform at the bottom of the stairwell. I would think the work would not last too much longer.

Re: Detroit Lake water level
This is the current water level and the projected water level chart for Detroit Res.
Looks like it's going to stay at 1450 ft. elevation for Dec. and Jan. before filling up to the 'boat ramp toe level' (appx. 1540 ft.) at the beginning of April.
Here are the links I used:

Re: Detroit Lake water level
I was by Detroit on Wed. and can say in all my 58yrs. I have not seen any less water there. The Brit. river is comming in clear down along the island, and the little bay that I fish at tumble creek isn,t even there. It looks to me like it may be 10ft. lower than I have seen.

Re: Detroit Lake water level
According to a recent report the ramp at Mongold will close this Sunday and remain closed until the water level gets high enough to use the ramp again. As this was the only ramp remaining close to the water it will make for some interesting fishing for a while.

Re: Detroit Lake water level
Can I use my 4 wheel drive and just back into the lake at Mongold or it a gate up preventing entry? I used to do that in years past and once i sunk inthe mud up to the bottom of my 4 wheel drive Toyota 4 Runner. So after paying $250 for a tow, I got a winch. Never used the darn thing ever! Funny how when you have a winch you never need it. Anyway, this is the time of the year when the trout are always on the bite if you can stand the freezing temps. I figure the ground will be forzen solid this week and a guy should be able to launch a small boat with trailer from the bank at Mongold. Your thoughts would be appreciated before I drive there from Saint Helens. I guess I can aleays to ig Cliff but it never produces for me as well as Detroit Lake.

Re: Detroit Lake water level
If you go to the Oregon State Marine Board web page, on the right hand side, place your cursor over "Boating Access"....to the left, another window will open and when that does, click on "Boating Facility Closures" and thats where the info is posted for Detroit.
