I've never been pepper sprayed, but I got gassed with CS in basic training. It wasn't so bad. I've gotten pepper juice in my eyes before, and it wasn't so bad. On the other hand, I've neglected to wash my hands after cutting peppers and then used the restroom, and that about killed me! Good thing the cop is aiming high and not low! :shocked:

Interesting... A few of you are siccing the cops with pepper spray on me.... hmmmm Yep, I'm a 47 year old, all grown up hippie. I have a job I've held for the last eleventy-billion years (had to go to college for it too, graduated with honors). I am the quintessential tree-hugger (without the violent tendencies). I am a card carrying Repub that votes for the environment and social services (read Demo. I love screwing up the demographics). I pretty much believe you should be able to do what you want as long as you don't hurt anybody else. I have police officers in my immediate family and think they generally do a great job and in my case, are excellent people. I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong. I think that bigotry in any form is the lowest form of humanity. I am intolerant of intolerant people. I am a grown-up hippie and I hope that you don't ever hurt somebody just because you can.

I can imagine whoever was holding that camera was a real threat to an armed police officer in full riot gear. Cameras can be pretty intimidating. I guess the cop showed someone not to be pointing no stinking camera at him!!

straydog, take a look in the background and look at the people coming at the officers. everyone has the basic right of assembly, and to protest, i strongly agree with being able to exercise our basic rights right up until it becomes a threat to others.

let's put you in the same situation, with 50 or so people running at you and hollering and see what kind of decision you make.

it looks to me that the poor little guy with the camera had ample opportunity to leave, and i am also pretty sure that he was warned repeatedly to leave, if nothing else he should have been smart enough to figure it out when he saw cops in riot gear.

yep this post will probably upset ya', and i hope it does, me and my friends live and work every day protecting you and your friends, and the only response we ever seem to hear are backstabbing little comments and little snipes about how we must be badge heavy little wimps.

All I see in the background of the picture is more police officers, with the exception of a man on an electric cart.

Further, the officer spraying has his back to those behind him, whether they be police officers or not.

And further yet, as you say, people have the right to assembly. Perhaps the person holding the camera had done something to make him be asked to move on, perhaps not.

Fifty or so people coming at him? What picture are you looking at? :whazzup:

Yeah, no comments about hippies! My Boy Scout leader when I was a kid was a vegetarian hippy, lived by selling his pottery. He taught me how to flyfish. He was a very moral man. He exuded strength and conviction, and tolerance as well to be able to deal with the likes of me!

Pepper spray. Big effing deal. The stuff is about as lethal as Binaca.
It can be a little harsh on contact lenses, though. Don't ask me how I know this.

Note the barriers in the background. It looks like the cops were trying to keep the gathering (or whatever) contained to a certain area and some people were trying to bust their way out.
