My Dad-
My Dad is 84.
He is in emergency heart surgery right now.
He had chest pains over the weekend. He called me on Sunday and he was out of breath. He thought it was due to not using his oxygen machine the night before.
He had chest pains the day before, but shrugged it off.
Yesterday, he decided to go to the doc. Good thing. The doc made him go to Desert Hospital (In Palm Springs) and they think his aorta is clogged.
They are doing an angiogram and a stent procedure. If that works, great! If not, open heart surgery and he'll come home for that.
I'm really stressed. Please pray for my Daddy.
He didn't want to tell any of us kids, but he finally did. I may be going down there to assist.
Jen

Re: My Dad-
Woo hoo! That man is tough!
2 stents and he is talking about working on Thanksgiving! Check back in one year, says the cardio!?
Weird!
That man!!!
He works at Cimarron golf Course as a marshall in Palm Springs.
I feel like going down and golfing, now!

Re: My Dad-
My Dad isn't doing well and is not getting enough oxygen. He is back in the hospital.
They had sent him home, but now he's back.
He may have to have surgery, or who knows.
Need prayer.
He is blue in the face, I guess. I noticed that a couple weeks ago?
Also, someone in the hospital said, "You look blue!"
He said to them, "My girlfriend likes blue."
The reply was, "That's going pretty far to please her!"
Gotta laugh, still.

Re: My Dad-
Oh, my! I THOUGHT I was going to go, but then I remember it's Tday, and all flights are full and expensive! Sheesh! 560 to Palm Springs? A little less to Ontario, and I have the Christmas party and can't stay till it's cheaper to come home. I have to be home on the 1st.
So-- if anyone knows a good site for cheap fares, let me know by PM?

Re: My Dad-
He has pneumonia really bad in one lung, I guess.

I don't know what to think, but I want to go see him. Someone needs to be with him, you know?
I'm going to go after the Christmas Party, I think, unless things get worse. He is being checked in right now. He was in ER, but they are keeping him.

Re: My Dad-
Jeanne my Mother in law had a similar thing happen to her at 82. She ended up with a new Mitral valve in her heart. We being a medical family, wanted to know what to expect and if this would be worth the misery. We mostly wanted to know about the quality of life for an 82 year old after surgery. She looked like she was 102 and we were concerned for her undergoing such intense heart surgery.
Today we enjoy time with a vibrant lady that looks like she's 72. Since her surgery she has been to Mexico, Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska, many family outings (reunions), and visits family in Bellingham often.
Her doc said she'd have 15 more years to enjoy life. I scoffed at that idea 5 years ago. She has done real well since. It's looking like 15 years is very possible. Age doesn't seem to be a barrier as much as past history to them. Her heart valve was leaking and thus she had poor perfusion. She didn't have any heart attacks or damaged heart muscle in her history. Perhaps that is why she is doing well today. As for chest discomfort; she had all that prior to surgery so that your Dad has too may not be an issue.
St. Vincents does some miraculous stuff now a days. If you can get your Dad back here have him see an cardiologist at St. V's. Meanwhile we will pray for you and him. But chin up... bright days are ahead for you and your Dad to spend together.

Re: My Dad-
Turn for the worse-
I'm headed out tomorrow- Just wrote this last night to my family-
Quote:
Cindy just called me and Bobby just got back from visiting Dad.
Cindy and Bobby didn't have anyone's phone but mine, for some reason.
Anyhow, she is very concerned about Dad.
He couldn't get up to walk, today and now has a staph infection.
He doesn't even want to come home.
She said not to panic, really, but they are concerned.
I am going down Wednesday, the morning after my party.
If anyone wants to go with me, I have companion fares.
I'm worried.
Bobby said he couldn't get Bob to stand up, today and he had no energy to get up to go to the restroom.
He is extremely out of breath and feverish.
He couldn't climb the stairs to get in his home, when he was here, so if he does come home, will need help, for sure.
I'm shocked. I thought he was doing better.
He hasn't answered the phone for me at all.
Bobby says that when family calls he bucks up and tries to make it sound better than it is.
|
Sorry-- no time to write it as if newsy to you. rushed!

Re: My Dad-
Hi there!
I've been getting worried e mails so I thought I'd link this to my column and write here. I don't have the software for updating my column and it's been ages since I hand coded html, so.... this is just so much easier.
I'm at the hospital, waiting for my Dad to be checked out of the hospital. Since he has someone at home, he doesn't have to go to care. But, we'll have home service nurses to check on him.
Thank you all so much for your prayers. He is doing much better, now... Although, he still has trouble breathing and they think he'll have to be on oxygen full time now and Dad really balks at that.
He has so much pride, and this will be hard on him, but he's alive!
I'm just thankful for that!
More later--

My Dad is not doing well. Tomorrow I have the opportunity to spend Christmas with him, so I'm going. We don't have many to watch ifish, but I'm going anyhow.

Re: My Dad-
Praying for your dad, and for you Jen .
Keep your priorities right - spending time with your dad right now is at the top of the list.... Server problems, other problems, ifish issues, none of them are as important as dad, so keep going in the right direction, and the Lord will guide you along.

Re: My Dad-
Praying for you and your dad. I know how hard this is. Been there and done that a few times.
