Default Salvage in fresh water question

Does anyone know the laws or regs. about salvage in fresh water (rivers, sloughs or lakes) in Washington St.? Example if you find a sunken boat - can you raise it and take ownership? Does it have to be sunk for any length of time? ???

Thanks

Use the search option. There was a pretty big thread last year on it. I think that the salvage law applies to only saltwater. If its in fresh water, its theft.

If it is a motorboat it is the same as if you found a car abandoned in front of your house. Call the Marine Board for legal processes. At sea if you recover it and the owner wants it back you can charge them reasonable time and material for the recovery.

i salvage a boat in oregon that was registered in washington,,there are a whole range of regulations concerning this, was the boat stolen? is the river naviable<does the boat pose a risk to watercraft? is there a lean against the boat?i recovered the boat before these questions were answered, and almost got in BIG trouble, fortunately it all worked out but big pain in the A**,,,,cover your butt well and ask alot of questions and document the whole recovery even after you get the answers to these questions,i.e. pictures, witnesses, names of agency's that gave ok for recovery and on and on

I believe the salvage rights are already deeded and claimed for the specific areas on columbia etc. check with local authorities in that area.

You thinkin on trying to raise that floater in the slough on the way to Co.line park??

Been there since before the first snow fall at least a couple months. looks like an older wood cuddy cabin?? May have extensive damage in rear as it is resting on the rocks vertically.

Good luck if it is the one your trying.
