Favorite meal?
We all have a favorite meal, right? But I must say that eating the meal, is good, but the planning and preparation, is what makes that meal great. I would love to hear about your favorite meal, not necessarily you favorite food, if ya know what I mean.
My favorite meal takes place on a sacred river, down a dust road, just before daylight. With my back pack, fly vest, fly rod, and my dog, we begin by walking in the dark towards the river. As day light breaks, trout begin to break the surface looking for their breakfast. I too begin in search of my own breakfast. It doesn’t take long before the back of my fly vest is alive with trout doing their best escape my frying pan.
With enough trout for a full stomach, I head to a sand bar and begin to build a fire. Out comes the cast iron skillet from the back pack. Soon my bacon is sizzling and dancing in the pan. As I eat the bacon, the trout make their way into the pan.
There I sit, eating my fresh fish and bacon with my leatherman too, pulling off pieces for the dog, and savoring the ever bite as I take in my surroundings. Crunching on the trout tale takes me back and reminds me of my brother and my self fighting over who would get to eat the tail, as we performed a similar ritual with our father.
Once my meal is finished, the river begins to call me back to her. As I wade out to place my fly behind that big rock, I turn to my dog and say “don’t go too far, lunch is going to be ready soon.”
That is my favorite meal – what yours

Re: Favorite meal?
I have eaten many fine meals in the woods, which I treasure. But right now, my favorite meal is christmas dinner with my kids.

Re: Favorite meal?
I remember my favorite meal in the woods or should I say meals. Almost twenty years ago I was camping up on the upper Salmon River. The one off of the Sandy. We hiked in for half the day, found a nice spot on the river, and setup camp. I hit the river and cast out a yellow rooster tail. First cast was fish on. A nice 14" trout for dinner. You could keep them back then. Anyway, between the trout, baked in the coals potato, and yam. I had one fine meal.
The bonus was finding the wild strawberries in the morning to put into my pancakes. Nothing like wild strawberry pancakes for breakfast.

Re: Favorite meal?
For me it's the following. (Outdoors)
I cooked a meal on and island in the broken groups
of barkley sound on vancouver island a few years back. A stew of mussels, clams, oysters, red rock grac, and rockfish. All caught fresh minutes earlier from my canoe. Added some marinara sauce, stew for a while, and serve. Eat while watching the sun set and reflect back on the days paddle.
Awesome!
Second choice.
Spend a weekend flyfishing with a bunch of buddies
in some beautiful locale. Get up early, and hit the river for a few hours and catch a few fresh trout for breakfast. Take a break from fishing and
cook them up over the fire along with some bacon and eggs. Man, now THAT'S living! Take the meal and walk down to the river, plant it on a rock, eat the food of the gods, and enjoy the sound of the water flowing by.
For indoors,
A big home-cooked Italian feast of pasta, meats, fish, etc.
Some good wine to go with it, and some great friends.

Re: Favorite meal?
I love streamside meals, but the meal I'm always hankering for is a nice Italian beef sandwich loaded with hot peppers from Mr. Beef in Chicago.

Crappie fillets deep fried in a beer batter! Served with tarter sauce and cole slaw. With the doves cooing and the chuckar chattering in the background on the shores of the Snake River.

Re: Favorite meal?
All time favorite outdoor meal is simple one for me..
Cold SPAM sandwich on white bread with mustard, at about 6:00AM sitting above a clear cut on opening
day of deer season with nothing but a slight breeze in the face, and Mt. Ranier in the foreground..

Re: Favorite meal?
Breakfast burritos (which can be anything wrapped in a tortilla) heated on the engine block on the way to the fishing grounds. "Cooking with your boat" - gotta love eatin' well (hot food) on the open ocean even when you don't have a galley!

Re: Favorite meal?
One of my favorite meals is HOBO STEW . I make it before i go camping . The first night of camping i doint like to cook .I take the HOBO STEW out of the coolers and put it on the
bar-b-Q . To prepair itthe night before you take a large piece of tin foil(about two feet long ) and put a hamburger patty in the center . Then i add slices of onion , carrots , potatoes and green peppers .I forgot to say that i put a large thick slice of onion down first then the hamburger patty . this is important because is could burn and this will keep your hamburger patty from sticking to the tinfoil .Salt and pepper to taste , i pour bar-b-Q sauce on the top generously and let it flow to the bottom .
Fold the tin foilup and seal it tightly . I then take a second piece of tin foil place it under the first and double wrap it . Place it on a hot bar-b-Q for 25- minutes and it is ready to eat .You have your whole meal ready in 25- minutes . It makes my mouth water to just think about it .
P S You do not have to turn it .The key is to seal it tightly it will steam and cook everything with out turning it .

Re: Favorite meal?
My faverite meal is the monday before elk season . What we do is cook a turkey over the campfire. Usually takes (about a fifth) 4-6 hours, surved with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, fresh vegetable, and usually homemade apple pie.
This used to be a opening eve tradition but due to the consumption we bumped it up a day to avoid the opening morning
Nothing better than good food and good friends & family we have started inviting some of the other camps.

Re: Favorite meal?
Fish tacos made out of either tuna or dorado while sitting on the afterdeck of
a 70' yachet in the Sea of Cortez ... enjoying 70-80 degree air temps ... in the
middle of the winter ... right after spending the evening snorkling and diving for
lobsta'!
Yeah, baby!! Now *that's* the ticket!!
