Default Clearwater, FL fishing?

Looks like I might be moving to clearwater, FL this summer and was wondering if anybody has done any kind of fishing down there. Just trying to get a feel for what kind of fishing I can expect. Thanks.

The fishing in Florida is so much better than Oregon, its not even funny. Congratulations on your move If there WEREN'T more to life than fishing, I would be back in Florida right now (because Florida sux in most other categories compared to the NW).

The farther south you go from Clearwater, the better the fishing gets. Spend lots of time around Captiva Pass, and the bay inside of Sanibel Island. In fact, any of the passes between Tampa and Naples are outstanding places to catch BIG Snook and Tarpon.

Take all of that money you will be saving from having no state income tax, and get yourself a 16 to 20 foot Carolina Skiff. Custom build it like a flats boat, complete with a large casting deck and poling platform. This is much cheaper than buying one of the big-name flats boats (Maverick, Hewes, etc.), floats in almost no water, and planes and hauls a$$ with much less power than any other type of boat of the same length (less money spent on your outboard). You can take this all through the backcountry, up on the shallow flats, and even to offshore wrecks.
