Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
I live in North Bend, work in Coos Bay, grew up in Lakeside. What exactly do you mean by highlights? The highlights that I know of are Shore Acres, out past Charelston, the other beaches such as Horsefall Beach, and all of the fishing and outdoor opportunities. Rivers and lakes are abundant, large supermalls and huge attractions are not. Bandon is a neat town, lots of tourist activities, shops, candy factory, cheese factory, lots of knicknacks. Winchesterbay is a neat stop, most shops have their big push in the summers. The Little Theater on the Bay is good for those whom enjoy acting, as well as the SAWDUSTERs in Coquille. I have not been to either of the theaters, but if my wife gets her way, I may end up going.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Hmm, this is a tough one. If it were you working down here, I could line you out on all kinds of stuff to do. But unless she's into steelhead fishing, crabbing, clamming, game-spotting, bottom-fishing, or just drinking beer and watching it rain...I have no clue what there is to do down here.
The City of Coos Bay has a website, as does the Chamber of Commerce. I'd check into them.
Sawdusters is a great show, but it only runs in the summer months.
I'll try and stay away from the "there ain't nothin to do here", as that's what most of us love about the area. No waiting in line for us (unless yer drawing unemployment).

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Martin85,
Are you looking for things to do for your wife, or are you trying to find things to do while shes gone? If its the second one, I would be more than happy to help lead you astray.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
When I lived in Reedsport we looked at Coos Bay as "the big city" and it was where we went to have a night on the town...unfortunatly, I can't remember what exactly it was we did after the first few drinks.
Coos Bay got its first, and only, TV station in 1960 and until the mid to late '70s that's about all they had...besides high school sports, movie theatres and bars. Now, there's cable and satellite TV so they're up on all the popular activities & viewpoints. They're just like us.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Define some things she likes to do and I'm sure we can help or maybe my wife can, I'm not very informative on the estrogen aspects.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
The monthly trip from Gold Beach to Coos Bay was a highlight of my childhood....they had a MALL (Pony village) and then, yes, a MCDONALDS!!! It was paradise when I was young, and logging and fishing was king.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Hey love2fish stay out of this, you know that if we get in trouble while she is gone she can and will Hurt both of us. You also know she got the job so we can buy a real offshore boat, I mean a family boat to catch halibut and tuna in.
She doesn't have time to do anything during daylight hours and she doesn't shop or have any girly hobbies. She is looking for a good beach to check out if she gets any free daylight time and maybe a brew pub? or a cyber cafe? or maybe a health club to work out in.
She said that she has met some interesting people down there already. I cant wait to take the current boat out of Coos Bay later this year with the free hotel room to stay in.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Hey, I have a single buddy who could show her the town!! Just kiddn dude. One of the easiest beaches to get to are Bastendorf or Sunset Beaches. Tell her to follow the signs to Charleston and keep going on the road until you see the beaches on the right. As of a place to get a brew, the Cedar Grill is nice or the Backstreet Saloon is more of a nightlife type. Nothing for the cyber cafe's that I know of, there used to be one, but it shut down. There are multiple health clubs around though, probably the best for relaxing and the whole bit is Bay Area Athletic Club. It's reasonable and has spa's, weights, courts and the whole bit for around 35 bucks a month.
Anyhow, you'll love the fishing down here. It's night and day compared to what people usually see in the Northern area. If you need more exact info let me know.

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
I was born in Coos Bay / North Bend
I would have to say that there is much less to do in Coos Bay since tragedy struck last week.
The Coos Bay Library burnt to the ground last week,
both books burned… and one had not even been colored in yet!
Such a tragedy

Re: Coos Bay.. What to do
Thanks for the info tailchaser I passed it on to her, too bad about the library we both thought that they might have a computer but from the sounds of it they were a little less tech than expected. As for the report of no fish in the town I still think we will have to drag the boat down to run some recon runs this spring.
Did they salvage the book that had not been colored in?
thanks
