Beaver football
The Beavs will crush LSU next year if they get the chance like they might, and also do the same to USC! Beating the defending shared National champions in the same year will help make it a year to remember!!

Re: Beaver football
Ya Right...That is hilarious...
The SEC is bar none the best conference in both football & basketball from top to bottom...
I like the Beavers but take a look at their facility...They are trying to raise money for that pathetic stadium down there that is in dire need of a make over...
Enter my home state - Po Dunk Kentucky...we are undoubtly the worse football school in the SEC besides Vandy & Miss. St and we have a stadium that has been renovated and is just a skoosh under 80,000...and yes, they put the rear ends in the seats...
I rest my case...that is the difference in that part of the country vs. this part of the country...it is passion & it is life...
Now I know I don't need to mention basketball...IN Kentucky, basketball is king, bothe at the UK & U of Louisville.
Don't get me wrong, I have adopted OSU as the team in the state that I will root for, but until they step up financially they are going to have a difficult time recruiting kids and money there...and most of all, schools to play in Corvalles due to the financial side of things...

Re: Beaver football
KHH,compared to 30yrs ago the Beaver football program has come light years. That new indoor practice and wieght training facility comes to mind. They didn't put in astro turf until 1968. We need some of the rich alums to get behind the new stadium renovation project.

Re: Beaver football
All of the best players the Beavers had at the skill positions are gone. I don't think the Beavers have enough left to be very competetive in the PAC 10 next year. The Beavers best football is behind them.
The Ducks on the other hand are young and will be much improved next year and the year after that.

It is a great move to try to get a game with LSU, though! Love those tough non-conference games.

Re: Beaver football
Freespool,
It is definately all about the money...I have a close friend "SaltWater Cowboy" who is alum from there and he understands the money donation thing well...
It takes deep pockets...I like the Beav's allot...I was privliged to be involved with the OSU's coaches fishaong last JUne and will do it again...There Offensive Coordinator Paul Cryst is a great guy...
I hope they can upgrade but if you don't have a Phil Knight or somebody like that it is hard to compete...
Like I said Kentucky is definately one of the red-headed step children when it comes to football in the SEC but their alum has some deep pockets and that is why at least they have facilities to throw in a couple decent seasons every decade...
As for the U of W...they have no excuses...bad carma...Hedges + New-Weasel = losing...
Good luck beaves...

I think it would be great for OSU both for recognition and Money. Now admittedly I'm not a Beaver fan, but they said UO couldn't beat Michigan to.

Re: Beaver football
Blackdog, well said. The X factor is will Anderson get better? Not much improvement from last year in my opinion. He just doesn't read the defence very well, and has a bad tendancy to panic under the slightest bit of pressure. Perhaps we'll get to see Gunderson, now that's what I'd like to have happen. The minute Anderson gets happy feet, his butt should meet the bench. I want to see what the youngster has,my guess is he'll play next year, unless Anderson somehow sees the light.

Re: Beaver football
freespool, I have spent time on both sides of the Anderson fence. Trouble is Erickson wasted his redshirt year for basically nothing. This should have been his sophomore year and with over 4000 yards that would seem pretty good. Granted he did lead the nation in interceptions but other factors played into that. First off, the O-line was mediocre at best. Second, besides Newson, he was throwing to a pretty good tight end, a completely worthless slot receiver that couldn't run a route or catch it in the event he ever got open, and a walk-on flanker. Sure, the walk on (Hass) turned out to be pretty good, the point remains defenses didn't necessarily have to respect our pass offense, letting them blitz like crazy (leading to happy feet) and shut down the run.
Now, will this change next year? How will the line play with a new left guard and tackle? Guard should be better as Lose was terrible but tackle will be the real key. Hopefully a youngster or one of the JC transfers can step up. Also, will anyone step up to play alongside Hass and replace Newson? Newton and Haines will replace Euhus just fine, IMHO, but receiver really scares me. I'm also excited about our running backs, the quick Wright, the bruisind Cole, and the exciting sounding redshirt Yvenson Bernard.

Re: Beaver football
Well, I hate to break it to all you Beaver Fans, but they lost their "foundation" this year. Take out Seigler and Jackson, and its back to sub .500 ball.
Anderson, never was and never will be.
I agree, UW has no excuses. They get the best attorney's errr,,,, coaches money can buy.
Football season, only 8 months away.

Re: Beaver football
Nice Dan
Cougs might not be in the best shape next year, but they sure did have a good season this year overall. I guess we were #9 in the nation, 1 down in the Pac-10 from that awesome USc team.
If anyone tries to put down the cougs, just look at your national rank and swallow that pride down.

Re: Beaver football
Only a Beaver could be that optimistic!! Believe me, I know. 28 years of losing will do that to you. Erickson helped this program a bunch but the lack of continuity in the coaching staff has been a major setback. Give Riley a few years and he'll have them very competitive every year.
Now, next year - better than this year? Maybe. Offensive line will need to improve. Derek will be better, and our running backs won't lose a step from where Stevie J. left off. Now, wide receiver is another story. Hopefully, one or two of the JC's that we bring in will step up and be a big contributor, if not, our walk on's won't lead us to many victories.
Defensively, we'll suffer the loss of Dwan Edwards but other than that we should be fine. Bray will take over for Siegler in the middle just fine and our secondary returns mostly in tact.
Now, if someone could recruit a donor the likes of Phil Knight, the worries of the Beaver Nation would be over. It's funny how Duck fans are so arrogant about their success, when much of it is attributed to the contributions of one man. If they don't find success, it would be an absolute joke with all the millions upon millions he's spent on 'his' team. However, with the loss of Tedford and some other key coaches, finding that success has been much tougher lately. One victory against Michigan doesn't make a season. Hard to play 'D' though with Allioti as coach and all your DB's are a bunch of midgets.
When does football start again anyway? Recruiting signing day is just a few weeks away (Feb 6th) then spring ball isn't too far behind that.

Re: Beaver football
Hey.......I'll be the first to admit it, the Cougs have been mighty impressive over the last few years and the Dawgs, well, haven't. The Huskies need to learn to get up for all their games like they do for the WSU game.
But I like the way things are going for UW........Botox Babs is gonzo, recruiting looks good........it's time to right the sinking ship.

Re: Beaver football
"One victory against Michigan doesn't make a season"
11/22/03 = Oregon 34/OSU 20
Oregon 2003 = 8 wins 5 losses = 3rd place Pac-10
OSU 2003 = 8 wins 5 losses = 4th place Pac-10
It's a long time until next football Civil War. As I tell my son, who is a "Beaver Believer", when he goes on a rant - The outcome is not determined by what anyone says, that's why they play the game.
