Default Weird vibes and Craigslist

I recently contacted someone about a really great sounding deal on a 4 stroke kicker off of Craigslist. No phone # in their ad, but we traded a few emails. They had said they lived in the Couv, and had suffered some recent economic hardship. Had sold their boat and were now selling their kicker.

I started to get some funny vibes when they wanted to bring the kicker to me, rather than me coming to them. Then they said they didn't have the fuel tank for it, just the motor and hose. Then they didn't give me a phone # to call them at. Last night I sent an email asking if they had manuals/warranty cards for the motor, and what dealer they had purchased it from, and gave my cell # to discuss further meeting time and location. No response since then either on email or by phone.

Now, I guess they could have just sold it to someone else. Or I could be assigning bad motivations to things. But it has certainly sobered me to the darker side of Craigslist. If anyone is missing a late-model 9.9 Merc, shoot me a pm.

Problem with craigs list is that its a liberal board full of weirdos and tweeks

lots of good folks on there to but kind of hard to sort out sometimes . maybe he was just unsure what kind of person you are and you gave him weird vibes?

thats whats nice about boards like this every one has a reputation to protect so less scamming.

Stolen 3 foot from my garage door on my boat, a 25 horse 2005 Honda with very few hours on it 4 weeks ago in the Tri-cities. Please keep a look out and let me know if you get any more scum bags from Craigslist with a Honda and the power cable cut and no tank. I have serial numbers also.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

In addition to searching your local craigslist, try http://www.yakaz.com/ search engine also. This picks up on more areas. The thief is unlikely to attempt to sell anywhere near where it was stolen.

If you see the same item listed in multiple states, it's probably hot.

I about had the same thing happen to my 15hp. They cut the fuel line and tried to get it off. That ticked me off enough then a few nights later they came back and tried to cut the cable securing the motor to the boat. Thank god for that $15 security cable.

Sidenote.. I recently heard there was something like 16 cars broken into in one night in Rockaway and surrounding areas and all were unlocked.

That is actually Smart to not have any buyers come to your house.. I will meet in a neutral lot from now on.. They could be as leary as you...
