Trout Spinning Reel
It's the time of year when I usually start cleaning reels, going over my gear, and generally getting ready for next spring. One item on the "to do" list from the summer was to pick up some new spinning reels for my daughter, my wife, and I that have very smooth drags, cast well, and won't break Santa Clause's bank. It's been a looong time since I bought a spinning reel and there are so many darn choices out there that I have to admit it's a little confusing and intimidating. We plan to use these for casting and trolling small lures and bait fishing with very light rods.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Look no further than the reel and rod maker that co-sponsors this site. Okuma spinning reels will do you well, and they're reasonably priced to go with it.

Re: Trout Spinning Reel
I use a Stradic 1000 and landed 2 summers on the McKenzie with it on a
1 piece 5'6" light trout rod. A bit spendy but well built.

Re: Trout Spinning Reel
I got a Pfleuger trion two years ago for christmas. My family of 4 now has 4 Pfleuger spinning reels and one Pfleuger round baitcaster. The local northwest sports store has them for about $40 each in a couple sizes and the store formerly known as Sportsman's Warehouse has numerous sizes but I have not priced them there. We troll for kokanee with them as well as bass fishing and occasionally catch trout up to 10# on them. I used to use Mitchells before they turned to junk then Abu Garcias Shimanos and I even have an old Eagle Claw that is pretty lousy but I am certainly most happy with the Pfleugers.

Re: Trout Spinning Reel
Shimano. light, durable, cast like magic, fairly inexpensive. Next best thing to an old mitchell with a new spool ( the drag is in the spool, they don't age as well as the reels wich last forever)

Re: Trout Spinning Reel
I have a Shimano Sedona and a Pflueger President XT and the President XT is a better reel. I believe it was a bit more though.
I dont have any complaints about my Sedona though. For the money it was pretty good. I do like the Pflueger more though.
