Don\'t make them like they used to!!
I was changing the spark plugs on my 96 bronco today for the first time and you almost have to be an contortionist to get the job done.
Anyone else have this problem when changing plugs?

I have heard that some cars,SUV's,and Pickups, the easiest way to change some of the plugs is from underneith.

Don't be picking on my ford now , it is a great vehicle. The problem mostely lies with the air conditioner pipes and tubes and crap.I am not specific to any brand of vehicle persay but i really have enjoyed my full size 96 Bronco. It has been a great vehicle for all the things i enjoy to do.

Re: Don\'t make them like they used to!!
I have a '92 Bronco with a 351W. Changing the plugs was OK. It would have been a piece of cake if I was 7' tall. Being all of 5'9" I had to use my tire stand.
But then I decided to change the oil pump.
According to several people, this is possible without pulling the engine.
Of course, I immediately discovered that this is not true, unless you are a contortionist, have hands the size of a 3 year old and can stand on your head for 2 hours straight.
I should have the engine rebuilt and back in by April.
Of 2009.

Re: Don\'t make them like they used to!!
I wanted to change the water pump on my Chevy S-10. I could see the thing clear as day. The repair manual was clear and easy to understand, and it looked do-able. Unfortunately, there was no possible way that I could see to do it without dismantling half the vehicle in order to just get to the bolts.
So I had to take it in. Pity.
The '78 Honda Accord I had in college required that the engine be yanked just to change the belts!
Easiest car I had to work on was my Geo Metro. The 1 L engine that probably worked off of rubber bands was so tiny that there was no possible way to over-engineer it.
Our Grand Caravan has to have half the spark plugs changed from underneath, and it looks like it's a tight squeeze to get them out.
