What to do with old cell phones?
I have several old cell phones cluttering my life -thought about tossing them in the garbage, but I though I'd see if there was a better option. Any ideas?

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
My wife told me she thinks that you can turn them into womens shelters. As they are no longer activated they will still work for 911 calls. A phone call to one of them may solve this riddle.

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
We've donated ours to women's shelters over the years. Don't forget to get a receipt for the tax deduction.

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
If the phone is newer, try www.cell4cash.com. They take the phone, refurbish it, then sell it in 2nd and 3rd world economies. I got $20 for a pair of Nokia 3360's and there was no hassle to it.

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
Look for a first-time buyer. The wireless providers usually give a buyer a rebate for any used phone. When I bought my first cell phone the provider said that I could get a 100 dollar rebate for turning in an old phone. I didn't have one so I asked around in the office and another fellow had one. I gave him 50 bucks for it. The provider sent me 100 bucks for it.

Mad Mikey - I've been trying to make a universal acoustic coupler that will accomodate any cell phone...

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
Ask any daycare if they need cell phones for their "dramatic play" area- make sure they are sans batteries.

That's right!!! Get them started out properly talking on their play cell phone while riding their Tyke bikes AND sucking on a sippy cup while practicing their abcs'.

They are great for keeping the car or boat from rolling out of the driveway.

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
If anyone has no idea where to turn their phones in for a women's shelter drop me a note...if you would prefer to get it to me I can see that it goes to our local hospital which then will get it to the right places.

Re: What to do with old cell phones?
I've been told that you may return them to "The Body Shop," (skin and hair care stores located in "the malls," (Clackamas Town Center, Washington Square, etc.) or to Car Toys stores.
They, in turn, will collect and forward them to the womens' shelters.
 Although, personally, I'm fonder of the idea of using them for wheel chocks, or maybe aggregate for that new patio slab you're pouring, or, perhaps adding split rings, hook and swivel and trying them for Odell Mackinaw jigs.

Someone told me that you can donate them to the police dept for a tax deduction. Maybe they in turn donate them to shelters. Not sure.
