clean you jet(s). I just did a full tear down of a two burner. It sits up right (that is the mixture tube that comes in from the back points down). At the bottom of the tube is a jet, with an iddy biddy little hole. Odds are the inside of the burner (behind the screen) has rusted and that debri has fallen down the tube and landed on the jet causing erratic oxygen propane mixture.

I have a second single burner that the tube points upward and there fore the rust hasn't been falling down on the jet hole, but probably still needs cleaning.

Otherwise a stuck starting plunger/valve may be the issue but very unlikely. You can get those for about 17 bucks if you need one after a full cleaning.

The copper tube is your thermostat, it will get warm and hold the plunger open but it shouldn't be doing anything odd unless cracked?

Let us know how it goes
