morning paper
I read a letter to the editor in the morning Oregonian by a West Linn woman. She was complaining about the dangers of Mad Cow but down in the letter she states that all of us that eat beef, chicken and FISH were going to probably catch Cancer.
She feels that we should all be Vegans like her. Doesn't she realize that most of our veggies seem to come from South America and Mexico and they use all kinds of things to fertilize them that could cause cancer.
Even if you buy organic veggies, there are so many things in the soil that it doesn't matter. I would much rather eat Salmon any day than all the veggies in the market place.
She needs to get off her bandwagon and work on getting a life.
Onward and upward with meat.

Re: morning paper
Seems to me that anyone who is alive has a pretty good chance of getting cancer eventually.
Evangelical vegans bug me. Go eat your veggies and leave me alone.
Salmon cures cancer, I have no doubt.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Amen.
I waited tables at a veggie joint in college. I always got a kick out of people who considered themselves more enlightened because of their diet.
We had a "Vegan Chocolate Cake" one night and this guy is halfway through and loving every bite. I check on my table to see how everyone is doing, he is raving about this cake. He asked me about the sweetness and I told him we used some organic smanic local docal honey. This guy drops his fork and starts making a big deal over calling this "Vegan". He then "enlightens" me to the fact that the bees had been exploited for their honey. He then stomped out in his leather sandals.
Some people's children.

Re: morning paper
The worst are the ones who became vegitarians along the way somewhere and think they can argue with you for eating meat, just like the people who recently quit smoking and go into a bar and complain about the smokers. Go figure!!!!

Re: morning paper
The cocoa plant was exploited for its cocoa, and was the broccoli plant exploited, as was the soy bean plant exploited, as was the onion plant exploited.
I am not against vegetarianism...but eating anything is exploitation of something or someone...including the underpaid farm workers who picked it.
I don't hunt, but still i would rather be an elk taken in a hunt than a cow raised in captivity for slaughter.
On the other hand, if I were a bull I suppose I could put up with that a while...once I got the hang of it...

Re: morning paper
I like the ones who hand out vegan pamphlets trying to encourage the non-meat eating lifestyle. Like some hunter/fisherman is really gonna look at that pamphlet and go, "Honey, this 2 minute pamphlet has changed what i've belived in all my life...i'm gonna be a vegan from this day forward!"
Give me a break. Go preach it to someone else!

Re: morning paper
There's this thing called a food chain. It's been around for millions of years. Humans are at the top, and that's a good thing. AND WE DIDN'T GET THERE BY EATING ONLY PLANT MATTER!

Re: morning paper
"Vegetarian" is an ancient native American word.
It means "lousy hunter"

Re: morning paper
I have several vegetarian friends and fortunately they don't preach. At barbeques they will bring thier own gardenburger or vegetables to grill.
I tried the vegan lifestyle but after 2 weeks I had a craving that would not go away. I had to eat meat.
We are carnivores and are intended to eat meat. Our teeth are designed for eating meat. Nothing better than hacking up a piece of dead animal, cooking it, and eating it.

We are actually omnivores...but a friend of mine says...
"If God didn't want us to eat animals He wouldn't have made them out of meat?

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Yep........and I feel pretty good about the fact that I'm pretty much a non-discriminatory eater. Meat, vegtables, exploited bee honey.....I like them all. I don't want to live without meat OR vegetables.
So, yeah.........pass me vegetables. They'll look nice sitting next to some steak or seafood.

Re: morning paper
we had people coming over for dinner one time and they asked me if I was going to have vegatables, I said yeah sure. I did not think about them being vegan, I had made stir fry. It was kinda funny in the end, we wound up going out that night. I have never had the thought of going vegan, I am not a hard core meat eater but I do like it, and have no plane to give it up.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">RIGHT ON 1pump!! I totally agree with you on this one (even though you're still a Philly fan  ) I think the saying below puts it all in perspective
