Default Help with toyota electrical problem

Hello,

I have a 1989 Toyota Extended Cab 4X4 pickup. It was recently given a rebuilt 22R with a Downey header. Also, the body was lifted 3" using a Performance Specialties kit. When we did the engine swap, I had ran a worn out clutch and leaky front harmonic balancer seal for many miles as I saved pennies in order to get the lift kit, header, engine kit, clutch kit.......

Anyway, after changing the engine we couldn't get the engine to run right. Unfortunately, after my friend messed with my throttle position sensor, did we realize that the harmonic balancer had moved on the hub. Ok, fixed that, question is, what is the procedure to reset the TPS to its proper operating position?

Ok? Next question (if you don't mind). I built this truck from a heap because I actually wanted the 4 cylinder with the 90s extended cab body (most are V-6s it seems). So, I have always had this issue where when you turn the on the blinker to go left it will sometimes make an obnoxious buzz and not work thereby I have to jiggle the arm to make it work. Recently, the e-brake indicator as well as the battery indicator came on. I was sure I needed an alternator. So, when I replaced the harmonic balancer, I also out on a rebuilt alternator. Unfortunately, the next day I noticed that the electronics were acting funny. You know, the familiar slow wipers, Pioneer flipping off and on.... So, I thought, old battery. Which it was and so I replaced it. After, replacing the battery I had the system checked and it was pushing the recommended amps and the flowing the recommended volts.

Thing is, that last night on my home from work in the dark and rain, I started having electrical problems again. Slow wipers, gradual dimming of lights and when I would flip my blinker on the stereo would turn off and on. I realize it may have been because of the experienced drain, but I also wonder if it might be connected to the long time annoyance with the blinker? Also, last night, even though there was the obvious discharging problem with the symptoms I indicated, there was no accompanying indicator lights.

Help???

Krue

Update: this afternoon the truck started and ran without a jump

I checked the fuse boxes and the veritable plethora of fuses and breakers.

I think I bought a lemon alternator. One can't expect those rebuilders to get every one right, every time.

I will check the straps and main connections tomorrow too

It's Ultra time!

Can't help much with the electrical, but I can tell you that your blinker problems are not related to it.

If your buzzing problem is the same as mine was (1990 22r) it has to do with the extra play you have in the blinker switch. Mine was easy to use once you got used to it, but it had a sweet spot where it made a horrible sound. If you take off your steering column cover you'll notice a plastic peice that rotates slightly when you turn on your blinkers. This peice is probably cracked somewhere allowing the extra movement in the blinker switch.

You can probably find a replacement at a junkyard. I never did get around to fixing that problem before I sold it. Now I have a 91 V6 4runner with a whole bunch of new problems.

Sure do miss the good ol' 22r...

Yes, I do believe you are correct sir...

I took the covers off and can see the mechanism. It loks like maybe a couple of the contacts are oogy

Man, I love this Michelob!

It is all better now....

Krue

Have I ever told you that I used to hate Michelob. But this Ultra is quite tasty and I think I'll have another.
