What to do with my old C-64? ;)
I'l bet I'll get some real comedic responses on this but I gotta try.
I'm cleaning house, throwing stuff out and taking anything I can to Goodwill in prep for a move this Spring.
In my closet are two, yes, two Commodore 64 computers with all the goodies and they still work.
I'd hate to throw them out but realize they are so archaic and antiquated there is no real use for them anymore.
Can they be taken someplace and recycled or maybe given to a school for kids to rip apart and see what their ancestors used to call "technology"???
Just a thought, I don't want the stuff in a landfill either.

Try Ebay? Maybe someone out there collects them, some people collect some pretty weird stuff.

Re: What to do with my old C-64? ;)
Sell it on ebay!
I did some quick searches and if you have the right combo of stuff, it could be worth $75 per system. That's a lot of corkies!

Sell it? woa, never thought of that. I suppose I could probably throw in all those pirated video games I have on disk too....Nah, probably not a good idea.....

Weld two pieces of flat steel to the bottom and a riser through the center, and it'll be a better boat anchor.

Re: What to do with my old C-64? ;)
My brother-in-law sells that kind of old computer stuff on ebay. His biggest deal was an old Apple that he bought at the Salvation Army for something like $10. He turned around and sold it to a guy in Japan for $500. I suppose there is a fine line between junk and treasure.

Re: What to do with my old C-64? ;)
You guys are killing me. I vaguely recall that stuff.
My mom got me a Vic20 for Christmas one year. My brother and I took my mom's keys one night and looked in the trunk of the car so I knew I was getting it. My brother was ticked that didn't show more enthusiasm when I opened it. But I spent hours and hours coding on that thing. I had the tape drive and I even coded a subroutine that locked access to other stuff on the tape drive. It was simple and easily hacked but my brother didn't know better. I spent a lot of time coding some really bloated graphics stuff and was amazed when I'd look at the examples in the manual. They had like seven lines of code and made an entire game. I had twenty three lines of code and drew my name on the screen and made it flash. Eventually I sold it to my cousin for $120 and bought a cordless phone. I think mom was mad but I couldn't be sure.
Yep, sell it on ebay.

I'm gonna have to get the book out when I fire it up. Remember the old commodores with the green screens?
In my high school computer class we had 20 "PETS", two "TRASH 80s" and one Apple.
When the C-64 came about it was worshipped as the God of all computers.
So funny, it was obsolete in a year or two.

Re: What to do with my old C-64? ;)
Obsolete is in the eye of the beholder. My four year old loves his Windows 3.1 computer. I have another old computer in use by the kids that only runs DOS, but it's adequate for their needs. Anyone ever have the old Atari computers? The GUI for that is now open source freeware, and I loaded it on. That, and two other open source GUI's, called Seal2 and Dosqube, and a free browser called Arachne allow my kids to do just about anything they need to do for their homeschooling, and play a few games. Yes, it's obsolete, but it all depends upon what you want to use it for. Think about it. Most of what we do on computers has to do with text and images. Those are the keys to getting information across. It doesn't take much to do that.

Mod it?.
I've got a Super Pong system in it's original box with the instruction manual from '76. I keep it in my office for nostalgia.

Stinky,
That's a cool site, however my skills with electronics are not even close to being able to do a project like that.
It took me 8 hours to replace a fuse in my truck once....
