I love my pellet stove. You should check on some of the new stuff out there with the tax credits that are available.

We went through the same thing, for the most part a fireplace is just for looks. We now heat our whole house with our wood stove insert. Even with the winter we had last year we never used the main heat. Make sure you get one with a blower if you plan on using for you main source of heat.

I know a guy that refurbishes wood stove inserts and stoves. Send me a PM if you would like his number.

Take a look at the Napoleon line. Let me know which one you prefer and i can get you a price. Are you looking for "cash and carry" or would you need install? They have both wood and pellet.

Joe, forget the pellet stoves I had 3 of them they do not produce a lot of heat, and besides they are and electric appliance no electricity no pellet stove.

I just installed a Quadrafire pellet insert and it is heating my 2200 sqft house great so far. My favorite part is not having to go out and cut/split/stack 3 to 4 cords of wood a year!! or have to haul in a arm load of wood 3x a day. As for the electricity issue, a small generator will run the stove when the power goes out. The rebates offered right now make this a good time to buy.

Not trying to be argumentative but just give you my thoughts.
