Swinging a fly is the way to go. You'll need a weight forward floater but multi-tip would be even better.
6/7 is a little light for winters but it will do to start with.
If you want to learn how to cast the use of an indicator will frustrate the hell out of you.
Depending on the depth of the water you are fishing will dictate what fly to use.
