Need advise please.

I bought a new fly rod a 6/7# 9.6 ft long,Its loaded with a floating line and 30lb backing,I would like to fish for winters this year but I have no clue on what to use fly wise and if I should use a different fly line,Ill be fishing the siletz,nesttucca,and the alsea river, so any help will be awsome.

i've got some flies for you to get you started man...

the rod should work ok - may be a little light but you'll get by.. your two primary options with a fly rod are swinging flies or dead-drifting them

swinging flies can be more fun - the take is like a spinner or spoon but even better

dead-drifting them can be more productive in the winter...

in a dead-drift presentation with a flyrod alot of people like to use a bobber. with a 10ft leader off the floating line you can adjust the fly bobber (indicator) up and down the leader depending on the spot you're fishing.. setup directly to a jig-type fly or to split-shot above an egg pattern.... fish it like a bobber/jig setup on gear...

swinging with the single hander in the winter you're gonna want to get some (or at least 1) sinktip to run off the end of your floating line to get the fly down to the fish...

i will help you out with your casting a little and your presentation out on the river sometime before the season gets really going if you want... i've also got an extra sinktip or two you can have as well as some proto flies...

Swinging a fly is the way to go. You'll need a weight forward floater but multi-tip would be even better.
6/7 is a little light for winters but it will do to start with.
If you want to learn how to cast the use of an indicator will frustrate the hell out of you.
Depending on the depth of the water you are fishing will dictate what fly to use.
