Default Any gorge dwellers out there?

Ok, we all know that I84 has been closed from Troutdale to Hood River. WA14 is supposed to reopen tonight, but for passenger cars only.

My question is, is it really that bad?

I was supposed to go to Fossil today but my boss didn't want to pay me the extra miles to take the long way around.
Now I'm supposed to go tomorrow, but I just checked and I84 is still blockaded. This is starting to cost me some $$.
I can't do anything about it either way, but is the weather that nasty or is ODOT wimping out?
If any of you Mid -Columbia types have any info, that would be great.
Just trying to satisfy my morbid curiosity.

Here is Camas and Washougal, the roads are doable with chains. The problem with 14 east of Washougal is that there are so many turns, hiils, etc, that it will be painfully slow going.

We have anywhere from 1-4 inches of ice on the roads.

I wouldn't imagine that 14 is that bad, but like I said, it certainly won't be a quick trip. Plus you will likely have to go all the way to Hood River on the WA side. Not sure what the status of 84 is beyond Hood River.

Good Luck.

Believe you me, it's bad. Second day off without school for the kids. I don't think it's going to even think about warming up until Saturday. Today's high is supposed to be 23 degrees with a low of 22.

The roads are horrible and the freezing rain hasn't even hit yet.

Just heard that I-84 is supposed to open at 2 this afternoon, chains required.

My boss called at 0600 this morning and said forget it, probably until Sat. He said I was more than welcome to come in and help out around town, which I did.
Big mistake.
Got stuck trying to leave the yard at work (despite having chains on), got stuck again over in NW PDX, broke a chain, headed for Salem, broke two more chains by the time I got to Wilsonville (not enough snow on I5), took the chains off, got to Salem and did my thing, went back to PDX and promptly got stuck for the third time in 8 hours. So of course I had to put the chains back on.

Should have stayed home. :depressed:
