An article in the Longview Daily News quoted Joe Hymer,I believe thats his name. as saying that the smelt that were holding in the lower Columbia have disapeared. No idea where there at.Said it doesnt look good for another return to the Cowlitz. But you cant rule it out.

Too much, but as you know its supply and demand.
I believe it was 2.99 for 6 fish (50 cents a smelt) at Joes and FMS.
I got some last year at Tonys in OC a lot cheaper.
Sure glad I got in on that first Cowlitz run!

Marie, is your smelt from this year's harvest? When they were readily available earlier this year they were $1.49 a pound. Everybody expected them to be available longer, but we were wrong, at least for the time being. I think they'll be back.

I bought some in Chinook, Wa. today that were last year's fish, but they did a better job keeping the freezer effects off than I did. They were vacuum-packed and I wouldn't have guessed they were a year old. I'm not sure how much I paid since I bought some other stuff. Probably 2 bucks a dozen or so.

I will get back to you on this matter tomorrow.

Cap Dennis says he knows where they are.

Until tomorrow, I'll wait for more interest.

Thank You,

I didn't dip many last year do to an unfortunit incedent that had my net impounded during last years run....just glad my brother still has a surpluss of em.What I do have however is abot two doz packs one doz apiece of smelt sized shad I jigged in Astoria last august.Anybody ever use em for gators in the lower river, and did they do ya any good?I haven't been able to get a shake on em as of yet.But above bonneville last memorial day they were working pretty well, which is why I jigged em in the first place.
Oh yeah I also have 5 one galon milk jugs packed full of incedentally jigged anchovy, and bloddy anchovy water, planned on busting the blocks up for crab bait but didn't do much crabbin this year...anybody have a suggestion of what they may be good for?

The price I paid saturday at FMS was $2.99 & the vacumn pac contained 10 fish.
I would be interested in buying a case if it's this years smelt. Let the bidding begin!

I bought a 25 pound case last night at a fish market. I wanted to get 50 pounds but they only had the one. $1.49 a pound! Now I just have to break it up and vacuum seal it.
