Default FURNACE KICKED THE BUCKET!!

Arrrrgggghhhhh.

Now that I got that out of my system.....Wouldn't you know it? Our heating oil furnce took a major dump - as in total replacement and a lot of assembly required. I just priced a replacement - Holy cow!!!

Fortunately we have a wood stove - have a couple days worth of wood - hope the wood guy comes today - yeah, right!! Also have a couple propane heaters going - along with a carbon monoxide monitor, of course - and an oil filled space heater. So, we're keeping toasty regardless.

My question - is there anyone out there that may have recently converted from heating oil to natural gas and still has a working oil furnace lingering around...looking for something fairly new - maybe less than 7 years old for a reasonable price (less than the $2500 to $5000 for a new one). Our house is about 1800 square feet - i guess that makes a difference regarding the size and capabilities of the unit.

Please let me know if you have such a beast.

Thanks!

They hauled ours away when we converted our house a few years ago. It was 50 years old though. They furnace guys made the comment about "that brand will run forever, its the Cadillac of oil furnaces!". I found that ironic since it was the SIZE of a Cadillac!

Sorry to hear the news...stay warm. Hopefully you have enough wood to last.

For $5K you better get central air with it.

We just had a new central gas system installed for around $3400. They used a low profile furnace in the crawl space (can also be placed in the attic). We already had gas, but everything else was new install.

Glad to hear you have a wood stove, we don't, and it was scary everytime our old heater would creak.

Sorry about the furnace :depressed: . Sure lucky to have a woodstove as a backup!!! We heat our house with wood and other than being messy, it sure is toasty!! Plus, if the power goes out we can cook on it!

Don't give up on your furnace yet, as I might be able to save you some money. Do you know what's wrong with it exactly? My older gas one went out and I had someone look at it. Before he started he said he hoped it wasn't the electronic ignitor or the board cause those were the spendy parts. Ended up it was the board and they wanted $400 just for parts. Told them I'd get back to them and started calling around. Everyone told me they didn't sell retail only to vendors. Then on a whim I called George Morlan Plumbing and they got me my board for about $85 and have lots of other furnace parts. They have quite a database for parts. Maybe you can salvage yours.
