Nootka Sound/Tahsis info needed?

I know someone who is in the process of buying a house in the town of Tahsis BC on Vancouver Island. Just wondering if anyone has fished any of the rivers(other than the Gold)in this area for either salmon or steelhead? Also, any info on Nootka sound fishing would be appreciated as well.

I have fished Nootka Sound on several occasions and have stayed in Tahsis once. I would caution you that Tahsis is many miles from Gold River via logging road and is not what I would consider a good tow with a boat. If I were to travel there again I would put my boat in at Gold River and run by boat to Tahsis.

I have not fished in the fresh water in the area but have fished the salt. The closest "zipper lip" spot to Tahsis is Ferrier Point. Ferrier is in the unprotected ocean. This "Inlet" areas around Nootka Sound have had limited openings in recent years. However, last year the seasons were getting closer to normal.

Really big fish,lots of bears and Cougars.GREAT STEELHEAD fishing on gold river catch and release only for some GREAT native steelhead fishing and its one nasty road from Gold River to Tahsis that has HUGE logging trucks on it, I mean HUGE !!!
Its been a few years since I've been there the road may be improved but I'm sure the logging trucks are the same size.But the Salmon fishing in Nootka sound is great remember 80' a good place to start.I believe you have to go to Cambell river before you can keep steelhead.I love it up there had some friends that lived in gold river really wanted to move up there.Its awesome country. :grin:
