So who's playing hooky today?
Called the boss this morning to see if we were going to be open or not. He said it was my call and i wouldnt have to use a vacation day if i didnt come in. I thought about it for a bit and said with my 35 minute commute on a good day i would just stay home and "tellecommutte".
I sure could get use to this tellecommuting. Have a nice day all.
I probably should go fishing but i probably wont.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
FIL - It's awsome!! I work from home most of the time uless I have to be on site for a project. I love it!!! Only problem..I can use weather as an excuse only if I have field work planned...otherwise, here I sit at home, watching the snow, working my tail off, wishing I was fishing.

They closed our office, so it's an official paid "play hooky" day! Really breaks my heart....not!

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I have today off anyway. Wifee's boss said if the roads are bad not to come in.
So we think we just might have to hit the hot tub and watch the snow here in a few minutes.
Ain't america great!

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
My boss had everybody jamming yesterday in anticipation of giving us all the day off today. So here I sit. I might get called in, but I hope not. I don't mind the snow, but the wind is another matter.
Tomorrow is going to be a rat race while we try to get caught up again.
Hmmm...might be a good day to go to Costco. Probably nobody there.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I sent my boss an e-mail today - told him my power was out...he wrote me back saying don't worry about work today then... I wonder when he'll catch on.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I wanted to call in, but I promised everyone in the office that I would go pick up the gal who does our payroll and bring her in. She gets really freaked out by the bad weather and won't drive. So I chained up and took one for the team.
I figured that should be worth some brownie points.

Yeah, I could get used to telecommuting too.
I could also get into Telepathicommuting, where I just think about work while sitting in the boat.

I did some vpn this morning until the boss sent the "office heroes" home. Now I'm stuck in my chair. See my post "Stupid back tricks".

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Was supoposed to get off shift here at the fire station at 0800. At 0730, the chief calls and says that 2 of the 4 guys getting off need to stay. I volunteered for the overtime. It was supposed to be for 6 hours. The chief just called back- it's now 24 hours.
I guess I'll be buying a new rod next month

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Since I have a such a long commute (2 miles) and a 4x4, I'm in the office. Kinda nice tho. It's quite and I'm actually getting some stuff done.

Spud, I tried to get a little OT today myself but no such luck. Can't pass it up when it is there, to few and far between for us anymore.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I'm here at the gas station/store. Figure no one will be out, too nasty. WRONG! I'm out of milk, bread, bacon, and coke 6pks. And if it keeps up, I may run out of beer (no Busch, Busch Lt., Natural, Natural Ice, Old E, St. Ides, 211, 211 Ice, you get the picture). Looks like everyone around here took the day off too. And it seems like there might be a giant party going on somewhere near.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I've been trying to get some work done over VPN, but with so many people working from home the VPN gateways are way over loaded.
Don't you just love how outlook freezes when there is any kind of network connectivity problems?

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
I telecommute full time so I get screwed outta any 'adverse weather days' unless they include power outtages...
Been doing it for almost three years now - definitely has it's ups and downs.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Was up at 4:45am, out of the house at 5:45, drove 16 miles to work, watched some of my other co-workers straggle in, secured early at 3:00, scraped ice off the windows of my rig, drove home without any mishaps. But I am ready for "normal".

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Folks in PDX think a little snow that lasts for a day and a half is reason enough to go to the store and stock up for 3 weeks so I had to be at work.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Ventured out @ 1400 for a Costco run.
Good call. There was about 20 cars in the lot. The place was so quiet it was kind of spooky. They had about 3 registers open and there wasn't even a line at any of them. They closed right when we left, probably about 1530.

Re: So who's playing hooky today?
Got off duty this morning at 0800. So not really playing hooky. I actually don't mind working these types of days, we are usually busy so the shift goes fast. Can be a bumpy ride in a fire rig with chains on though.
All you hooky players be safe and stay home if you can.
