Southern Oregon Fly Tying Classes?
Much unlike myself, my wife is super craft and now that I've started fly fishing, she's expressed an interest in learning how to tie flies.
Are there any classes in the Southern Oregon area she could goto to get a grasp on the basics?
I'm pretty stoked about it actually. The cost of pre-made flies can really add up!

I know Umpqua Community College offers classes on steelhead tackle making. I'm sure they do flies.

like a one day thing or a full on course? wouldn't be a problem to drive up there for a weekend or two for a class... but from medford that's a couple hours each way so if it's like a full term class kind of thing, probably not going to be workable.

Re: Southern Oregon Fly Tying Classes?
I learned from books and internet tutorials. Now days there are all kinds of videos on youtube and some of the fly shop websites. I would look into it if you can't find a place in SO to take a class.
Good luck!

Congtact Southern Oregon Flyfishers club. I'll bet they can point you in the right direction. Local fly shops often have classes too

You might also check with the fishing dept of Sportsman's Warehouse. I may be wrong, but seems like I saw a poster advertising a tying class

I think it's 4 or 5 sessions.

Check out Southern Oregon Fly Shop they have classes also I am sure Trophy Waters offers them as well. The fly shop in Ashland doesn't look to have any coming up.

I think they are usually. Plus, you can't always get what you want at a fly shop. Even if they were free and just as effective, it's FUN to tie flies.

Actually, you can find quality flies for not too much money on Ebay. Most are tied in Africa. Many of the flies you pay a high price for come from the same sources.
One reason I continue to tie, tho', isn't the cost of the flies. It's because I have a number of patterns that I frequently use that are very effective and I can't buy them anywhere. Also, I can match colors more effectively than the generic run of flies at the local shops. The shops still get a substantial amount of my money, tho. lol
