A reel seat for a friend
A joking request on a forum post turned into cool challenge and gift for another rod builder. Here is a croc weave that if done in size "A" thread fits perfectly on a reel seat insert. The pattern is 80 X 199
I did it on a cork insert as it was easy to reduce the OD of the insert body to allow for the added diameter created by the thread and epoxy finish. My mistake was not realizing that the heavy wrapping tension I use when weaving was going to squish the cork and cork being a natural material it wasn't going to "squish" exactly the same throughout the length of the weave. Next time I'll remember to put a coat of finish down first for weaving over softer materials or just stick to wood inserts and other harder materials.
The first pic is obviously before the epoxy and you can see how bumpy the wrap is. I put the skeleton pieces on just to show fit & spacing on the insert.
Second pic is after first coat of epoxy and I'm happy to show how the finish filled in the bumpyness of the wrap & if I had not shown it no one would know!
After it's finished & glued up ready to install it's off to another builder to use on a "gator" themed rod.
