Adding trigger to non trigger rod

How feasible would it be to add a trigger to a casting rod that didn't come with one? Simple as taking cork off and adding trigger? or am I over simplifying?

It kind of depends on the composition of the existing seat. If it is metal I suppose one could braise or pop rivot a triger onto it. If it's a modern graphite pipe seat I suppose a trigger could be attached in some manor with a screw & epoxy adhesive. If fact, Fuji makes a "trigger" that goes with a grip/seat assembly that can be built with or without it. A little creativity would be in order to just "add" a trigger to a seat without one.

Most would say to remove the grips & seat and replace with new ones. That is not an easy chore most of the time. Yes, it can be done from the rear so removing the guides isn't required but still a LOT of work.

Another simple way to replace just the reel seat without distrurbing the grips (not for the faint of heart) is to cut the seat AND blank clean in half at the center of the seat. Heat the 2 seat pieces in boiling water for a few minutes & the glue bond should give and allow you to pull the pieces off (razor cut the joint at the grips). A piece of blank or aluminum tubing & epoxy adhesive is then used to re-attache the blank back together under a new reel seat. I've done it that way and the owner couldn't tell it was ever cut even though I told him I was going to do it that way before I did it. Of course, this will void any warranty on the blank if there is one.

Whew! Sounds like a lot of work for a used $75 dollar rod! I was hoping that'd it be as easy as cutting the grips off, adding a new reel seat and grips and VIOLA! rod w/trigger guard!

The rod is a Lamiglas Classic Glass 9', so I don't know if I'd want to put that kind of time and effort and money into a rod that is just going to be used as a backup/guest rod.

perfect cadidate to cut in half & re-glue back together. with new seat & aluminum tubing in hand it's a 30min job tops

Here is one option,

Go online such as Cabelas, Charkbait or others, and inquire on the "Trigger Clamp". Depending on the reel you use would depend on the clamp and screw set you'd buy. This will solve your problem without doind a retro to your rod!!

Cool little gizmo! Designed for heavier rods used in the salt but probably could be adapted for lighter rods/reels.

Not to change the subject or hijack it, did you see the new clamps from Tiburon designed to fit the Saltigas, Toriums, Trini's etc.?
