St. Louis Ponds Any good now?

I read online ODFW stocked the ponds mid Oct. and will again the week of Nov. 9th. Any fish this lake in the fall? Is it still loaded with people in the fall? My stupid back went out on me on the last week of trout season and I need to get my fix!!! Thanks!

Not positive but I think guys duck hunt out there. Might not be the best area to be if guns are blazing.

I believe they hunt ducks to the south end of the property(pointing south only) and fishing to the north end. Hunters are "generally" more responsible than non hunters. I use the term generally very loosely as people are people! The ponds are a very safe place to fish-in the daylight.

The gate is closed, so it is a long walk (half-mile or so, if you know your way)...maybe not good if your back just went out. They stocked it with 1200 fish just before the kid's fishing event at the beginning of October (I saw them stock it, very cool, my kid and I had never seen that before). And I heard they stocked it again recently. All the trout were stocked into Pond #6.

People duck hunt there. That said, I have only spoken to a few people who were hunting, but every time, they have been much more worried about shooting me than I was about getting shot.

I would fish there anytime, and I think the trout fishing might be decent now.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, there's no way I can make a 1/2 mile right now. Why did they close up when they are still stocking? Makes no sense to me.

I'm not totally sure why they still lock the gates in the winter. I know that when I was a kid, there were huge issues with illegal activity out there like drug use and vandalism. Back then, there was only warm water fish so it made some sense to lock it up durring the winter.

Plus, its a flood zone during the winter time.

The person that was taking care of the area had surgery recently so they couldn't for instance open the gate on weekends to allow easy access on at least the weekends

It closes every year from Oct. 1-Apr.1. Not sure about the dates, but that should be pretty close. You can find the info. in the Fishing Regs. book or at the Marion County Parks website.

As for stocking it in October, I think it was just for a kid's fishing event.

Son and I went for the ODFW event. really set up well and my son had a great time. We used worms on the bottom and little rooster tails. He was very happy fisherman.

As mentioned it'd be a long walk.
