Childhood nick names... Do tell!
This will be fun. What was your nick name, as a child? Come on! Tell!
I had a couple.
Since I was very thin and delicate and seemed to get hurt easily, I was called, "Tissue Pae Pae" in a French tone...
Also, I was named Blue bird and for short, Birdy.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
In grade school the janitor always called me Ducky Because my first name is Donald. Then after the wife and I joined the Powell Valley Long Rifels ( Black Powder Club )I got the name TURKEY, this is how I came about getting that name. Went over to look at a freinds Winchester collection that he had at home, when I got in the house his 5 year old daughter was talking to me and she called me TURKEY, her mother was agast that her daughter called me turkey, she asked, Rachel why did you call Don, TURKEY? Now Rachel is a cute little girl and as she put her hands on her hips, she said " Because he's got a lot of meat on his bones " and the name stuck all the time we were in the club. As of now most just call me DB.-- My wife has a few names she calls me that I wont say what they are. ---- DAB

TonTo, and as you can see it's stuck for the last 32 years. It was given to me by my Grand father on my mothers side.My Grandfather on my dads side was full blood choctaw and when I was born I had extreem Indian features, aside from my blue eyes, first thing Ma's Pa said was I looked like a little TonTo and it's been with me ever since I didn't even know I had another name untill I started school, and about the only time anybody calls me Craig is in court or when I start a new job.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
Almost too embarrassing but my Dad used to make up stories to tell me before bedtime with the main character being "Michaelmus".
It didn't stick much after the first few years of grade school though.
I've been "Mikey" for quite a while and my moniker is a recent evolution coined by a fellow fisher-buddy about 7-8 years ago. I just liked the way it sounded and kept it.
I have been called a lot of other things but the BB always filters them....
My mother would never call me Mike or aknowledge it when friends called for me either.
"Nope, no Mikes' here." she would say, "I'll let you talk to MICHAEL if you like." in a very icy voice.....

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
Many nicknames in order of appearance:
Hawk... at as a preadolescent for being skilled in "capture the flag" if anyone remembers that backwoods game. I was fairly good at locating the flag, getting close without detection, swooping it up and flying back.
Scorch...for the my basketball shooting skills...broke the school record two years in a row for free throws.
Road Apple as a boy scout because it is a take off from by real last name, and adolescent boys like to insult each other as a token of friendship.
Crypt...again as a take off from my last name... when we used to work on horses who were affected with cryptorchidism.
The Big O...again a last name take off. Unfortunately it had nothing to do with my dating skills while in college...I studied too much to have earned that name. :depressed:
Iron Mike...most recently, but not for any resemblance to Mike Tyson, with whom I have absolutely nothing in common. It has to do with my taking firm effective stands on important issues, and not letting the political BS cloud the debate.

Cruiser...
A friend of mine named Todd got it started.
Jeane, a friend of mine called me Lorenzo (I'm a 1/4 Italian)
However, in 7th grade I was portly, about 160lbs and 5'4". That summer I spouted to about 5'10", weighed in about 170lbs, and when I came back to Seven Oaks my football coach John Cantrall started calling me "puppy"
He said I looked all nice and friendly...
until I put my helmet on
We won the league championship for the first time in school history that year and I averaged almost three sacks a game. He put me at nose tackle and let me operate from a two-point stance

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
In fourth grade my class listened to an audio tape called "Aaron the Airbag." It was about the advantages of airbags. Regardless, my name is Aaron, and well... My name soon became Airbag. It didn't last long though, it was quickly shortened to "bag". I went by "bag" from 4th grade until my sophmore year of high school, when I moved from down south to the great northwest.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
They called me Hollywood back in junior high 1979. I wore glasses and had the photogrey tint. One day I did not have my PE clothes so I didn't dress down. It was a sunny day so while everyone else was outside doing calistetics I was just standing around.
My glasses had gotten real dark in the sun and looked like sunglasses. While I was joking around with, pushing around one of the nerds, the PE teacher said "Hey Hollywood, knock it off". I guess he thought that I looked like a movie star with my sunglasses.
For the next couple of years people called me Hollywood.

Pop's always called me MR. B growing up. My wife calls me all kinds of names....just kidding. but my favorit name I like to be called is DAD by my kids.
Some folks shorten my name from Bernie to Burn or Burnmeister.
My employees refer to me as SIR. Just kidding again. I am sure they have many names for me of most I cannot repeat.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
Hamburger was my nickname for a few years... that and Blockhead. Kids can be mean. Think my head grew faster than my body(I'm 6'5").
That and any variations of Hans - ie. Hunt's, Heinz, 'look ma no Hanz', Hans Christen Anderson and finally Hansel and Grettle... which got changed to Hansel and Greggle as my brother's name is Gregg.
Once again - kids can be pretty mean.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
When I was young my Aunts and Uncles called me Byron. Why I don’t know.
My first job after high school I was called Jr. due to being vertically challenged.
At my previous job almost every day at lunch I would play cribbage with a group of guys. I acquired the nickname of The Briaster. I was dubbed this due a particular trait I employed to counter my poker face. One of the fellows figured out that when I got really quiet I had a good hand. After that I began to complain profusely that I had a rotten hand when I actually had a barn burner. To this day, I am told, anytime someone in the old cribbage group complains when they have a good hand they are accused of pulling a Briaster.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
Trotter: my oldest brother gave me this when I was little and would "trot" all around the neighborhood.
Shaver: I was pretty good at sports and would always play w/ the older kids. They kindof addopted me as their mascot. I'll run into some of those guys from time to time when I go back to see my folks and they still call me Shaver.
Iron Mike: When in college I caddied in the summer, and got this nickname from packing doubles for 36 holes as often as I could to make tuition for the fall. I would then go and practice at the local par 3 until it was too dark to see and be back at first light to do it all over again.
Straightweave: Another college nickname. The morning after the night before, we still had beer in a keg, and after a few the next day, I convinced my roommates to give me a haircut. They, ie, three, each tried a different style of cut and it came out quite unique. They named it the straightweave haircut and it stuck.
Chip: Another caddy nickname. Chipped in from "jail" against a really good player and kept myself in the match, and word got around.

Re: Childhood nick names... Do tell!
Fall River Guy,
Haven't played cribbage in years..but your post reminded me of my late Uncle Frank...a Will Roger's lookalike, and very much like him in many ways, including his humor and shortliners. He taught me to play cribbage while camping...some great memories. He was one heck of a guy...and one heck of a friend. You could count on him for a laugh and a helping hand at any time it was needed. He did a lot of good in the world, without tooting his own horn even a little bit.
thanks for the reminder.
