Computer help
Now, for some reason, when I click on a link that causes a new window to open, it opens minimized. How I do I get it to open regular? Also, can anybody recommend a freeware firewall? I'm connected to a cable modem (always on) and my computer stays on all the time. Thanks for the help........

Re: Computer help
I've never heard of a freeware Firewall, If there is one, I would'nt trust it. Go for McAfee or Norton. Spend a little to protect a whole lot. Repairs can be spendy. Just my .02

Re: Computer help
ZoneAlarm. Free and very good. Not sure about your other problem.

Re: Computer help
Zonealarm is a free firewall, last time I checked anyway.
On your window problem, try maximizing it and getting it the way you want it, then close, it. Windows remembers the way your last window opened and uses that until you change it. Hopefully this helps, I have never heard of a window opening minimized however so no guarantees....

Re: Computer help
If the above doesn't work, I found the following in a newsgroup search...
Close all instances of Internet Explorer except for one.
Right-click on a link in the page and select: "Open in New Window"
Close the first browser window using the [ X ] (upper right corner)
Resize the second browser window manually by dragging the sides to the
desired size.
Note: Do NOT click the Maximize button, you *must* do it manually.
Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Close button (upper right)
Visit another web site, open a link in a new "window", it should now be the
desired size.
Note: some pop-up browser windows will alter this process if that is the
last one closed.
If that occurs again, you now can resolve this problem.

Re: Computer help
Downloaded Zonealarm.....easy and quick. Hopefully, a little protection is better than none. All I'm trying to do is lower the amount of crap that gets on the computer from being on all the time. My home page keeps getting changed and other stuff.
I know the "run minimized" option is on the computer somewhere, I just can't find it. Thats what causes a window to open "minimized" With the color schemes my kid puts on the computer (changes a lot) I'll click on a link, it opens and I don't see it so I click again.....many open windows that way. I've threatened to break fingers for changing things on the computer....threats don't seem to be working

Re: Computer help
My e-mails started opening minimized for some reason, drives me nuts. I use Outlook Express and Explorer for the web. Sometimes links open small, and sometimes they dont??
I'd be curious to know the cause also.

Re: Computer help
Run Minimized usually refers to how an Application starts. When you launch a new window, you are not starting a new app, so I don't think that will help. To find it, right click on an icon and select properties, and select the pulldown for RUN.
